    Hello,
If this is the wrong forum I apologize. I have a basic knowledge of computers. I have an anti-virus, anti-maleware along with adaware and spybot.
    I have several questions,
    1. do I need more protection for my computer then windows firewall? I have read about people hiding their Ip and blocking port sniffing.
I am using a lappy on a wireless connection. I also have two desktops at home, one of them is physically hooked up to the cable dsl .
I am somewhat nervous because the other desktop is my son, who is downloading all kids of bit torrents and other programs that I know are full of hacks etc. We have a program on it to stop him downloading things but at 14 he is smarter then I and has gotten around it.
2.Can he infect my computer since we are sharing a wireless connection via a home network?
also if I do need some other type firewall, IP blocker ect, can you recommend a good one?
Both desktops are running VISTA 32, and my lappy is running VISTA 64
    Thank you

    Welcome to Majro Geeks!

Your starting point should be this link: How to Protect yourself from malware!

It should addreass most of your questions.

The free versions of Ad-Aware provides no protection. It is only an after the fact scanner and not a very good one. Spybot has a protection program built-in called Teatimer but it is not something we common recommend since it has cause too many people problems and it gets in the way of malware removal if and when you get malware. However we do recommend having Spybot installed and using the SDhelper (bad download blocker) and the Immunize features as mention in the How to protect yourself link.

As stated in the link the Windows firewall is not adequate.

Then your problem is that you have allowed him to have an administrator account. See the How to protect yourself link and make change him into a restricted user account and then uninstall all P2P and torrent downloaders.

Yes! But if you are properly protected (all PCs) and do not turn on file sharing, it will be less likely but not impossible.
