I was trying to do a system restor and accidently pulled out the power cable now all i get when i try to start up is a blue screen that gives me a fatal error message.

Does it mean my laptop i s ballsed or can it be fixed?

You should still be able to start the restore over again.
What is the make and model of the laptop?

I still need the model number; but, would also ask if you have CD's for the recovery or is it a special key you're supposed to press before it boots?

Its Ei Systems 4411 and I don't have recovery discs. No Idea about keys...

    I'm guessing its buggered then?

Not sure why pulling the plug would screw the system ( unless you had no battery backup working).

You can, if possible, try to borrow an xp cd of the home version as long as you have the xp installation key somewhere on your computer case.

How did you start the recovery the first time?

The laptop was actually working fine but I started getting a "Tray app" pop up box and i didn't know what i was. I thought system restore would get rid but appart from that, the laptop had always worked fine.

The installation key Tim mentioned is on a sticker underneath the laptop it is normally 25 digits in blocks of 5.
If you can borrow a CD with the same OS as yours (XP home /Vista or whatever) you can use it to install the OS and then when it askes for the KEY type in the digits you found on your PC sticker.

Actually, it has to be the same type of XP; Retail, Upgrade, Corporate, or OEM (OEM is most likely) AND, if you have installed SP3 or IE7, those should be slipstreamed onto a new CD if you really want it to be right when it is done.
NLite ( http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4324.html ) will let you do this.
I still don't see an answer to how you started the recovery the first time? And, have you tried that again?

I don't know what you mean....

The computr was working fine, no problems. i switched it on one day and a pop up came up tht siad "Tray app" something or other and i did't know what that meant.
I started a System restore trough the contrl panel and then pulled the power cable out by accident.
When i tried to load it back up, all i got was the blue screen with black border that says Fatal error and then some other numbers and stuff that is gibberish to me!!

Thats all I know. I wouldn't know what else to tell you.

OK then, have you tried Safe Mode? (Hit the F8 key just before the Windows boot logo appears)
If that works, try doing the System Restore again in Safe Mode.
