Yup after 12 years of service to a company, I have been laid off by email, how rude is that. :cry:cry:cryrolleyesrolleyes

Ok , Now that I am unemployed
I have time to go fishing
I have time to work on the truck
I have time to spend with my gf
I have time to pet the cat
I have time to fix the house up
I have more time to attend to my garden

Not a job within sight( not even flipping burgers) as the unemployment rate in my county alone is at 9.7 percent and rising. (I knew I watched all those mad max movies as a kid for a reason rolleyes)

I have enough money in the mason jar to keep myself afloat for 6-8 months, so just when I was getting bored with the daily grind it seems I no longer have that problem.

Well thanks for listening to my rant had to tell someone as all my local friends are still asleep.

Email that was really rude! I'm sorry Petaluma, things are really bad everywhere but there is hope. I got laid off years ago and found a job I actually like (most of the time). Good you're smart and have some cash stashed, took me four months to find something I liked, did a lot of temp placements in the meantime. *sending you good job hunting thoughts*

Certainly doesn't seem to be SOP for any company I've ever heard of. And on a Sunday at that.

Nope unfortunately it is all to real- I just called up my former employer and it seems they found someone to replace me(probably cheaper as I was making fairly good money), I always did my job on time in a orderly manner. I did however make the fatal mistake of showing them I was capable of working on my own and from that they think I am a threat to there position.:confused
The company i worked for would not know what to do with an HR department, they are a small community based organization. And this is exactly the type of thing I have seen them do to others over the years (fired by email or after coming back from lunch). It seems they do not do the face to face to well.
I was just pissed I did not see it coming ,but hey no one does.

As far as the management all the mess started 2 years ago as they moved the bosses ex con and ex drunk son to a position over me.

I have a hard time kissing butt for a paycheck,

Anyone need a forty year old chef? LOLrolleyes

So sorry and how sorry (meaning like sorry a-s) are they for using email.
The vision of a Mad Max society has crossed my mind from time to time lately also.
Hope you find something soon, then again after 12 yrs. you should - I can't underline should, get a nice severance pay and if they can't do it face to face tell em to drop it in the mail.
You won't realize how young 40 is until you reach my age.
    Good luck to you

Sorry to hear that news Petaluma, hang in there and keep firing off letters or going to see potential new employers.

Sadly where different countries laws are in place for this, I know its not easy to just sack someone in the UK and take someone on in that position without good reason or following many proceedures, unlike IIRC the US At-will employment laws!!

Do hope you find something soon so best wishes in that endevour.

It wasn't like that at one time. An employer needed a pretty good reason plus a fair amount of notice.
During the past 8 years under whatshisname no telling what all has gone to hell. We're seeing it now!

Don't know about now, but it used to be that the laid off people were supposed to be recalled before any new people were hired. May be against the law and you could possibly raise a good amount of stink for that s***head.

Severance pkg (lol lol) there idea of this was to give me the rest of the months paycheck along with my vacation and sick days and show me the email...
Iii am in a better position than most losing there jobs, my gf/roomate still has a really good job and I am sure with my exuberant personality I will find a new place to practice my cornucopia of culinary of skills...

    @hrlow2
Yeah that used to be true as Darlene said. Now it does not matter, as there is no one in the gov to complain too (not my style anyways) as job cutbacks have even affected my local gov services.. no more hostage/swat teams ,no overtime/shutting down fire depts,no more health services and just about any other place they can make a cut..several CA cities have gone broke and declared bankruptcy.
I am just tired after that long and look forward to not having all that responsibility (700-850 meals a week)
I have a real good rep in town with alot of stores and restaurants so I am not sweating it yet...talk to me in another 3 months tho......

Sorry to hear about this Pentaluna. Did not even have the stones to look you in the eye and tell you...

Of course after thinking about it, maybe they did you a favor. Now, instead of getting up Monday and heading off to work only to be fired, you can sleep in and chill out for a few days! Good Luck!

By email... that isn't rude so much as utterly spineless. You're better off without those people. Enjoy your unexpected vacation, and I hope you find a new and better job soon! :)

Petaluma........maybe we should hang out. :-D

We could go to Occidental and have lunch at the Union Hotel and then go out to the beach and watch the seals. :)

Not like we got anything better to do at the moment.

    ( I do feel your pain! )

Yeah after feeling sorry for myself for a day (utterly pointless)
My abrasive and sardonic (sometimes) humor was evidently one of the reasons for my being let go! (I tell ya I get no respect-LOL)
So I guess getting fired (lets face it thats what it is ) was what my mental health needed.
I slept in past 4am for the first time in 2 years (till 5:45 what a rebel...)

Yessir the fish in my neighbor hood are trembling at the sound of my footsteps....:-D
I plan to be that crazy guy fishing in the rain with a grin from ear to ear. Within 20 miles I have 5 lakes 3 damms 4 major rivers and the entire san fran bay. bass, catfish, perch, crab, clam, oyster, rock fish,Ling cod, and even Tuna (albeit 65 miles out) so keeping busy and probably well stocked with the bartering I can do with the local farmers will keep me busy.

    @ Tim W
You betcha I hit the coast all the time and come right by Occidental PM me for further

    Indeed..... more a poor excuse.

But sadly whats done is done and all you can do is rise above it, dust yourself off and move on, as you have mentioned with a good rep in the area, hopefully this will get you some work soon.

Yeah I call it slow release sarcasm ....:-D:-D:-D Hmm maybe I will patent that idea...

Just an excuse from a :crap

Seriously tho it was really just a bunch of little Napoleonic complexes..(staff meetings were a surreal reality show-:-D No beggining- no end- and often no topic other than the next big press/party event.

Already ran into a former boss and he asked if I was available for some on call work so..thats good
What a strange universe.. Where one door closes another opens. ( I must be doing something right )

The owner told me as the season progresses he would like to talk to me about doing it fri, sat, sun thru the summer--that would be great!
A small resort near the coast (pictures later)

The gf already gets to choose what she wants for dinner every night ( I spoil her)
Thankfully she is a comfort food woman. I try to make the frilly tasting menus and she thinks it's weird LOL... :p
