Ran Combo Fix now getting Fatal Logon error in XP

    Hi,

    I was at the Combo Fix stage in cleaning up Malware on XP. It went to stage 50 then said it was going to reboot. After rebooting I am getting a fatal logon error. I tried "last good configuration that worked" but get same error. I cannot boot into safe mode either. The recovery console is loaded but not sure how to use it. Help!! TIA

    Thanks for the quick response.
    I read the article and it states not to perform this with OEM XP. I have a Dell and am assuming XP is OEM. :( Also the at some point you need to boot into safe mode which I cannot do. On top of everything else my OEM CD is SP1. :(

    You could still run it. At the worst you will lose your updates. You can also try getting into the recovery partition if you have that installed from Dell. It should indicate it when you boot.

    If I try to run my Windows CD it states that a newer version is installed. Also my Dell does not have a recovery partition. On a side note all the steps worked great until I got to Combo Fix. Just don't know what happened.

    The error message is STOP: C000021a {Fatal System Error}. Again, this happened after ComboFix rebooted.

    Tell me the exact message...all of it. This usually means a file is missing. So we need to know what file.

    You could try doing a repair install.....also hit F8 and see if you can do a last known good configuration.
