Hi there. Yesterday I recieved a message from my avast antivirus about uh.exe on my computer. I have read anons thread and followed all the steps from the forums xp cleaning procedures. Step by step the "malicious" files were deleted. When I run the scanners again they all come out clean but uh.exe is still on my hard drives. It even appeared on my thumb drive. I can't delete it because it instantly returns. What should I do?
ps. here are my scan logs from before the cleaning

and here are the other logs from mgtools, and the "after" logs which only show that the files were deleted. but the uh.exe remains untouched. I forgot to write that I don't have any problems with my computer (yet!!). but avast always detects the uh.exe file.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
    Java(TM) 6 Update 11
    Java(TM) 6 Update 5
    Java(TM) 6 Update 7

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C08DF07A-3E49-4E25-9AB0-D3882835F153} - (no file)
    O23 - Service: JOOOUV - Unknown owner - C:\DOCUME~1\KASIK~1.OSK\USTAWI~1\Temp\JOOOUV.exe (file missing)
    O23 - Service: KKPEAWQE - Unknown owner - C:\DOCUME~1\KASIK~1.OSK\USTAWI~1\Temp\KKPEAWQE.exe (file missing)
    O23 - Service: OYEDZSJYYAO - Unknown owner - C:\DOCUME~1\KASIK~1.OSK\USTAWI~1\Temp\OYEDZSJYYAO.exe (file missing)
    O23 - Service: UIUOSZHMSNBZZ - Unknown owner - C:\DOCUME~1\KASIK~1.OSK\USTAWI~1\Temp\UIUOSZHMSNBZZ.exe (file missing)
    O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - file:///C:/DOCUME~1/KASIK~1.OSK/USTAWI~1/Temp/msohtmlclip1/01/clip_image002.jpg

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now goto this link Using MGtools and download the new version of MGtools.exe from the black bold print link in the first sentence. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Hi there. I did everything and i believe that it's all good now. The uh.exe is now gone and doesn't come back. My computer is free of any popups from avast or any other program. SuperAntiSpyware doesn't find anything bad so I believe that everything is OK. Thanks for all the help. U R the best.

Sorry to bother You again but after getting rid of all the bad files from my computer by following the malware removal procedure and applying the steps You wrote to me it takes twice as much time for my computer to start up and shut down. I don't know what caused the delay.

    The only possible reasons are
    1. Prior to running our cleaning procedures you were using MSconfig to stop various start processes from loading. Is that what you were doing before you came here? I will list all you startups further down.
    2. You have a load of stuff in MSConfig right now and since you did this and we specify that you must not do this in step 1 of the READ & RUN ME, I cannot continue.
    3. Also the cleaning process may have emptied some items from the Window Prefetch folder. Over a period of a day or two with a few reboots inbetween, the prefetch folder will restabilize.
Here is a list of all your startups other than ones that you have to have starting up (like Avast or similar). You tell me! Did you have any of these disabled previously?

First off I didn't mean to sound like an ungrateful as*hole after registering on the forum and getting help so if I did sound like that then I'm sorry. I only wanted to know if maybe I did something wrong while cleaning my computer causing it to work slower. From what I can remember some of the starups You mentioned were disabled. I' not an expert so if something was really bothering me and was running at startup even after I switched it off in the main application, I just used MSconfig to disable it. At this point I can't really tell You how much of the startups You mentioned were disabled. Some of them I remember. What can I do to speed up my computer in case it doesn't on it's own like You wrote (after couple system restarts)?

Follow the instructions that were given in step 1 of the READ & RUN ME more carefully. I will quote the ones I'm referring to below and note that we specify not to use MSconfig. You need to see what is in the Dealing with Startup Processes link.
Your main problem is that you do not have enough memory. Your logs show the below:

    Całkowita pamięć fizyczna 512,00 MB
    Dostępna pamięć fizyczna 157,92 MB

This reveals that you only have 512 MB of RAM. I recommend no less the twice that which would be 1 GB.
And you have only about 158 MB free. Windows XP does not run very efficiently when so little memory is available.
