Oma, Is that Dutch?

 

Mine is because I try to be but people always see thru me. And cause Fred was already taken.

 

Yup, although I've almost forgotten that language because I don't live in Holland anymore for many decades. Since recently I discovered and am lurking on a Dutch computer forum and I am :confused because I don't understand their computer language at all. LOL My brother was talking about a "harde schijf" on the phone some time ago and I was stumped! :banghead Figured it out when visiting that forum. Turned out it's a HD.

Do you understand Dutch?

 

Well I guess since I started this thread, I ought to participate, huh? I was just going to ask ya'll to guess what part of me this name would fit, but with Augie and Fred_G around I decided against that idea!! Who knows what those 2 would come up with!!:-D Anyhow, I lost part of my left arm a long time ago and in a land far away. Hence the name Stubby!!

 

I don't think it was just fred and augie, there were probably dozens of people contemplating what it meant

 

I just thought you were vertically challenged, or liked cigars. I think the Canadians bring the bad jokes.

Just joking, when I take over Canada, I will make augie an ambassador or something.

Being a beer drinker of some years, I remember that the old beer bottles were called 'stubbies' when the longnecks were being introduced. Like bug said, everyone has a different meaning coming through their filters.

BTW, neither I nor Fred would stoop so low as to make fun of an accident. However, if you had left the arm part out, that would have certainly fuelled some speculation.:-D

My user name is pretty simple. I had a wonderful dog named Abby who was at times called AbbySue. This originally came about one time when my best friend Sue was visiting and we were playing with Abby....we had her running back and forth and I'd say things like Abby, get Sue! and of course, Abby tore up the floor running to her. The name had a ring to it (we thought) so it just kinda stuck. I still miss my Abby.

 

Actually Augie, it wasn't an accident....the damn fool tried to kill me!! I don't know if that 'gook' went to snipers school or not, but he was a lousy shot, thank God!! As for making fun, well, my friend, I do!! No, it wasn't funny, but that happened a looooong time ago, in a different world and making jokes about it is all a part of it.

So you're bilingual? Bill, yes, I know you do. I don't like the Dutch language anymore, it sounds so strange to me. When in Holland in 1982, I was told that I had a strange accent when speaking Dutch. :-D I speak Spanish at home, so now I speak every language with an accent. Being tri(y)lingual ain't that easy.

well, i read this book a long time ago named "the game of sunken places" (i highly reccomend it, along with MT andersons other book, feed), and there was a character named Speculant. I guess it just kinda stuck with me, and now thats the username I use for basically every single site i make an account on

(my title "the confused one" comes from some shenannagins the admins were giving me when i hit post #500...link for further reading)
