I run Win XP on a Dell pc using AVG and ZoneAlarm.
I am needing to make back-up discs of all my www stuff such as
html and css files, gif's, jpg's and png's. Could anyone tell me if
this program; BurnAware Free 2.2.9 Beta, would be good for me to use?
I have used Nero but it is just way to resource hungry for me.
    Thanks for any help,
    Dee

My very biased opinion, avoid Burn Aware and especially if it is a beta.
I've tried 6 free burning programs so far. My note on Burn Aware just says disaster. I had long notes while I tried the 6 but later just put one or two words down on a notecard so I will not go back and try the same one again.
Also to be avoided, as far as I am concerned: JetBlue, StarBurner (I have it is not for 2K so it might be worth a try on XP), CDBurnerXP Pro (would not even load for me), Silent Night 2004 (used to work then stopped for some reason) and Deep Burner.

dlb has tried lots of burning programs so I'm sure he can recommend a few that work well in XP. I will send him a PM and ask him to post in this thread.

Hi! I just read your PM plodr.... anyway.... yes, it's true, I have just about every freeware buring program out there. BurnAware was decent a while back, but not great, and it seemed to work better with some CD/DVD burners than others. Personally, I like Nero6, but it ain't free, and it's "old" LOL. So, for freeware, I personally think that AShampoo 6 is one of the best. I'm not a huge fan of their blue/red theme, but other than that, I like it alot. It has lots of things it can do including burning BluRay movie discs, and it can wrangle image files. However, for burning image files (.ISO, .BIN, .IMG, .NRG, etc etc), nothing beats ImgBurn. For just straight-up one-shot simple data CD burning, believe it or not, the built-in XP burning software is quite functional, but it's VERY light on flexibility and features.

    :-D

EDIT- one other thing I almost forgot.... AShampoo requires registration. It's free, and you need to provide an email address, and, yes, they do send a few emails a month, but it's not a big deal....

Are you just making back-ups in case of possible loss? If you are, you might try Dell's DataSafe Online by accessing the Dell Support Center. You can save up to 2 GB annually for free. I set mine to back up my pictures and documents weekly at the same time. The first load takes a couple of hours but after that the weekly load takes about 45 minutes.
