There was a time it was a pleasant sound, not any more, not to me.

We have like 5 that come through the neighborhood. They start around 11 am and keep coming until 10 at night.
They come in the winter, at holidays, even in the rain.
The sounds range from the theme from The Sting (not bad) to a voice saying, "hi there" that unnerved the first time it came around, (had my back turned) to Beethoven's Fur Elise (kinda creepy for ice cream)

AND, when they stop, the music does not. One night (around 9 pm) it went on and on, couldn't hear the tv, after around a half hour I finally went out and knocked on his window covering my ears when I got his attention. He must have been there doing paper work, no customers in sight.

Oh I almost forgot the bicycles selling corn and whatever, they have whistles.

I'm probably known as the grouchy old lady now. :(

Sigh, there I feel a little better :wave

The bikes sell corn? Now that is strange. Do the bikes have whistles or does the corn have whistles? Seems CA has changed a lot since I was there years ago! :-D

My bike is lazy. It just stays where I put it, or moves when I pedal it. Mine must be lazy.;)

Use to love when I heard the ice cream truck when I was a kid. Now, when I do see them, the music is annoying! I would go crazy driving around with the same song playing over and over and over and over and over.

You should try working on one of them to know how crazy it can make you.
I did for 2 weeks a long time back. 11-12 hours a day, buying your own gas on a prearranged route, buying the ice cream you sell(from the company at inflated prices) and having to pay for the use of the truck. I thought I was doing good until the first payday. Ended up $75 in the hole.

Then I guess you don't remember the peddlers that came around with a horse drawn wagon selling vegetables. As a kid, while our mom's bought the veggies, we were all gathered around the horse. ( The poor thing was probably half dead --- but what did we know).

One good thing about lining in the NE, since it gets cold here in Oct the ice cream truck stops coming until April or May.

There's no ice cream trucks around here or in Montreal ever. Only time I ever saw them was when visiting cousins in CT. All we had was horse drawn block ice vendours for our ice boxes, knife sharpeners pulling their own carts through the alley ways, vacuum cleaner and encyclopedia salesmen and the requisite Jehovahs of course.

Oh, the ice cream truck just had some musicbox type tune.

I'm not that old, near 56. I remember that from about 6 yrs. old. Hey, what can I say as we were poor in an urban area.:)

No, I remember hearing some drivers were listed sex offenders, don't think it was here.
I hadn't seen an ice cream truck in years til we moved here. At first thought it was nostalgic here, now I've discovered they're just (I'm sorry, can't come up with a word that isn't offensive) :-o

What is wrong with me???? I just listened to the whole thing :-D
Guess I was expecting someone to yell at it.
By the looks of things on youtube a lot of people hate the trucks as much as I do.

Jack Bauer could have that truck selling candy bombs in a terrorists country in like 3 mins. What can you do to it? :-D

The ones around here play Popeye the Sailor Man, or, for some unfathomable reason, Billy Joel muzak. And every 15 seconds or so a really creepy high-pitched female voice shrieks "HELLO!!!"

I'm glad I live in the north also, as they don't come around between October and April. In the summer, though, they start at 9am and go until 10pm, which is I believe the curfew in the noise ordinance. When I was a kid it was an event to see an ice cream truck in this neighbourhood (we only got maybe three a summer), but since they built the condos and apartments in the woods that used to be my back yard, an ice cream truck goes by hourly. I cannot tell you how many times I've been tempted to "accidentally" shoot the speaker with a pellet gun. LOL

I'm just glad I don't live at my sister's house...the ice cream truck home base is spitting distance from her. I'd kill them all, but I'd be no jury would convict me. :-D
