I apologise to everybody for the language, but not for the sentiment. This disease is one thing that's guranteed to make me want to shake my fist at the sky and scream "WHY DO YOU DO IT?" Once more, I am sorry and it won't happen again. I haven't prayed for a while, a long time in fact. I now intend to start again and hope it makes a difference for Tim and Diane.

Tim, I don't know how I managed to miss this thread, but I did. I am so very sorry you and Diane have to go through what will undoubtedly be a very scary, difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you...

Every cancer patient has their own unique things to deal with and as you likely already know, there are all different types of chemo used that result in different symptoms...maybe this success story of a now ex-smoker will help:)

My 67 year old neighbor had adenocarcinoma in her right lung along with some spots on her left lung. She had a lobectomy and once healed sufficiently, started chemo. BTW, she got her biopsy results on Christmas Eve 2007 along with all the other info about surgery & treatment.

Before going in for surgery she went and got her wig, paid for by her insurance company. As an FYI, the American Cancer Society often provides wigs and for example, pads for women who need to have a mastectomy.

My neighbor had to go for chemo every week and other than feeling really tired, she did pretty well. The weekly blood tests revealed her blood counts plummeting, which isn't uncommon so she had to also get weekly shots to increase her blood counts. Initially, they did a blood transfusion because the shots weren't helping as much as needed. Once she had the transfusion, she responded much better to the shots.

She was able to continue driving (except on chemo days), doing her grocery shopping and even getting her grandchildren after school a couple days a week.

On Christmas Eve 2008 she received the call she had been waiting for...her PET scan revealed that her cancer was completely gone!

BTW...she didn't lose all of her hair like we expected she would. She had some hair loss while going through chemo, but not enough to wear her wig. She did start wearing her wig about mid January (of this year) because her hair had thinned even more. The re-growth is coming in strong, she's just waiting for it to get a little longer before going to see her hairdresser.

I do hope that reading about my neighbor helps at least in some small way. Hang in there! *HUGS*

Here is the update...:dancer ...... our doctor told us today that the tumor was an early enough find that he believes it will be just a matter of removal without follow up chemo. He will have the surgeon do a bronchialscope (sp?) to check on the spot on the right lung just prior to the surgery, but only because the PET scan showed "something" that absorbed the radioactive sugar.
Diane should not have any reduction in breathing capacity although she may hurt herself from chasing me around and beating me over the head cause all I am doing is going around saying "nip and tuck...nip and tuck" :-D.

Surgery should me sometime next month......nip and tuck....nip and tuck.....

And the doctor just called to say she has an appointment March 2nd with the surgeon!! Yahoo!!!!!!!!!

I firmly believe that all of your prayers and good thoughts have helped bring this about.

We could not wish for a better group of people to have by our side!! :major

Funny thing about my lung surgery taking out the upper lobes made me breath better, no breathing treatments any more either. I'm assuming it's different though being mine were stretched from smoking so long.

She should be all ready to hunt easter eggs. Will still keep up the prayers just to be on the safe side. ;)

    5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE
    4 tablespoons flour
    4 tablespoons sugar
    2 tablespoons cocoa
    1 egg
    3 tablespoons milk
    3 tablespoons oil
    3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
    1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world ?

Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

    CAKE :-D

As a 7 year cancer survivor myself, have faith and hope. Cancer is NOT a death sentence - look at the hundreds of thousands of us who have come through it. We pray that you will too. I now use my spare time to volunteer at the Cancer Clinic where I was treated to help patients do their medical reports on a touch screen computer system - and - listen to their concerns. Maybe you or your wife will do something similar some day too. For now, know that many are thinking of you.

It really does make a difference to know there are people out there (even though you have never met them, seen them face to face) who honestly care.
I said I was printing out my good wishes when I went (and I really did), had it in my purse in the night stand.

It will be over before you know. By all means GRIN

That is fantastic news Tim. I can't even imagine what a hellish week you've been through...! Since it seemed to work the first time around, I'll do some additional praying, around March 2nd, when the surgery appointment is. Can't hurt, right?

Just a couple of points, guys.
    1) I ain't a cook, don't even pretend to be.:-o
    2) It didn't look like cake and it definitely didn't taste like hot chocolate, more like a Mars bar/Snickers/hard boiled egg casserole. Still, bet Gordon Ramsay never thought of it. Any marketing tips?

  44. DavidGP

DavidGP MajorGeeks Forum Administrator - Grand Pooh-Bah Staff Member

LMAO... how true is that! Its more not whoops but its idiopatic xxxxxx you have sir/madam (basically means they dont have a clue), in our dept we have meetings that need majority concensus to form the diagnosis and treatment, works well but most of our stuff is experimental, new and likely works but needs time to collate data.

  45. augiedoggie

augiedoggie The Canadian Loon - LocoAugie (R.I.P. 2012)

Sounds like the egg cooked or curdled instead of emulsifying like in a Hollondaise sauce, too much heat and not enough stirring would be my guess, I'll leave this one alone.;)

Seems like TimW successfully hijacked his own thread! roflmao

  46. darlene1029

    darlene1029 A Grand Lady- R.I.P. 06/06/2012

Mostly people in the medical field seem to get that more.
Had one of my babies in the er, she was 5 mo. in the stall next to me doctors were working on a woman who was unconscious talking of another doc who broke a mans tooth during surgery, instead of telling him the truth they told him while they were there they noticed a bad tooth, removed it and charged him. :(
If I hadn't been so worried about my baby I would have turned them in.

Well yes, to incorporate all the ingredients before you nuke it and of course not stir it while cooking. Has to have a batter type consistency IMO. I can't try it as it has milk in there.
