Triple distilled, charcoal filtered, and barrel aged. Get it right Augie! :-D

Back on topic, I got some new bike shorts and bike shoes today. Sadly, the old cleats are age and rust welded to my old shoes! I ride retro pedals, but found a place for replacement parts for $40. New pedals were around $140 at the bike shop! I have spent enough freaking money! I can still ride some with the old setup, but will be thrilled when the new stuff comes in!

You spend more money on gizmos than I do on my family's entire annual shopping budget. And THAT is saying something!;)

Tis the true beauty of being single, with no kids! You get to buy your kid new clothes, I get to buy me some toys! :-D Of course, when I get really old, I will be screwed!

Wow, this is fun! Got my heart rate monitor in the mail! It took a bit to find my heart, but I do have one! Apparently posting here is relaxing 70bbm. A quick trip to the fridge runs it up to 90, but I walk fast.

Wonder what pron will run it up too... :-D

The surgeon who worked on me said you have to get your heart rate to 120bpm before you start to get any benefit from a work out so walk faster to the fridge.http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Leisures_and_Sports/judo-088.GIF

This little endeavor is beginning to get expensive! I have a new toy en route to torture my legs. A 'trainer'. You put your bike on it and it is a stationary bike. I like this idea! Where I live and where I ride are 30 mins of driving time. I love being on the bike outside, but there are times when it is raining, or cold, I can kill my legs and just crawl to the couch, instead of having to drive back home.

I need a new helmet, and then I swear I am done spending money on biking! :-D Well, I just won't be upgrading my 'puters much for a while... ;)

OMG I've wanted one of these for so long for my mountain bike! Thank you Fred! Can we get a photo of you all geared up on your bike with all the kit and cycling in this contraption? Pretty pleaseeeeeee ;)

I am sensing some massive sarcasm here! If you really want a picture, I will see what I can do. Did not know you rode mountain bikes Lev! What bike do you ride?

Absolutely not! You've put a lot of thought, time and money in to this, and I'm excited for you. I love the great outdoors and seeing people enjoy it and get healthier in the process :)

Well, it will be a few days before I get it. The back tire locks into the trainer, and adds resistance to the rear wheel.

Reality can smack you in the face. If I go crazy and crank out a killer ride, then get tired, how do I get back to my truck? I had calf cramps driving back home Thursday. Lots of 'fun' This device will allow me to ride like crazy, and be just a few feet from my couch. :-D

Body build glucose drink in your water carrier and power bars in your fanny pack :) Stop occasionally and stretch out your leg muscles too. Load up on lean protein 3-4 days leading up to a big ride.

*raises hand* Why exactly do you have to drive thirty minutes so you can ride your bike?

  23. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

That is a very frustrating thing for me. There are few 'safe' roads in this city to ride on. My street is only 1 block long, the next place to ride would be the highway. I am not a fan of riding on highways, the drivers here have absolutely no respect for bikers. There are usually a couple of bikers killed or seriously injured every year on this highway, I do not wish to join them.

To the east (30min drive time) is where I work, and where I can find 10 mile loops of roads with a nice wide shoulders, and lower speed limits for cars. To the west is an awesome off road trail, but I am not in good enough shape to ride it yet.

Where I live, people on bikes are less than human. I have biked in several states and this is the worst place I have ever biked in.

So I toss the green machine in the back of the dino burning truck and drive where I can exercise safely. Ironic.

My comment (sarcasm) was made due to a trip on I-10 thru La., one of the worst stretches of hwy I've ever been on, felt like I was on a motocross track the entire stretch

Don't think that is the word I would use...

I got pwned by the local trail today! I only rode 3 freaking miles!:-o I will take 10 road miles over the devil track they made! Actually, it is a very nice track, and well maintained. Right now I am just getting a baseline established, then the real training begins! :major

On people's wallets as well. Look up on Google "Louisiana" and you'll find the whole history there, including some government corruption. Yep, it even shows a pic of a road sign of "welcome to Louisiana". :-D Wondering why business won't locate there?

Get a tire repair kit for your bike and a cushion on your seat. ;)

'Some government corruption.' Wrong section for me to go off on this. Let's just say my state is rife with corruption, and a shinning example of why we need smaller government. We can debate this in here http://forums.majorgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=58

I carry a spare tube and a patch kit. Yep, I have gotten more than one flat on a ride!

Got the evil red beast in today. I likey this thing! I can get an even pace going, or just crank on the pedals and the resistance increases! Awesome! It is a major pain to pack up all my bike stuff, take it to work, store it there, load it back in the truck, go riding, load it back up and unload when I am home!:-D

But riding indoors will get boring once spring gets here. But the little red devil will work well until then, and great when it rains!

Link for the red devil: http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=26188&subcategory_ID=4120 I posted it before I think, but there is is again. Pretty solid little device for the $!

Just an update. Me and a friend did a nice fun 11.7something mile ride today. Rode on the roads, and rode in a couple of playgrounds. Both of us need a bit more time on the bike to rebuild off road skills and endurance.

Beautiful day here! Spring has sprung here I think! Plus, with the time change, we will have much more time and light to ride! We would have rounded the ride off at 12 miles, but there was a neighbor offering beer and crawfish. Would have been rude to just ride off...;)

It would be rude to be impolite. :-D Gotta love that part of LA culture... bunch of folks in lawn chairs in the front yard gathered around a pot o' boiling crawfish and an ice chest full of beer!

You folks up north still have that white stuff on the ground? :-D
