Ubuntu 8.10 Inside of Windows Vista Home Premium x64

I've posted this on the Ubuntu Forums twice with no response...


Recently I decided I wanted to try installing Ubuntu 8.10 inside of my Vista Home Premium x64 system.

Ubuntu installs correctly, but when I try booting into Ubuntu from the boot screen, I get the black screen that tells me it's loading several components of the system, and then it suddenly stops at "Starting bluetooth..." (I don't know why, I do not use bluetooth!) or something of that general nature.

Why is this happening?

 

Try running it in Sun Virtual Box ... I had a similar problem personally I like the new Mepis distro ...

 

VMWare is also good if you want to run a virtual Ubuntu. Something just twigged in my brain about Vista HP and virtualization. I'm not sure if this is still valid or not or even if I'm on base here. http://news.softpedia.com/news/Virt...s-for-Windows-Vista-Home-Editions-57807.shtml

 

Doesn't Wubi run on 64-bit?

 

Ubuntu provides an option to install itself as a Windows application, then run as a Windows application when user needs to use Ubuntu. It advertises as being a bit slower, but easier to get going. I believe that's what the user is talking about, not about running it as a virtual machine.

That said, I don't know why Ubuntu would do what you've said.

Ah, okay. My bad, I must have misunderstood your initial post.

 

I have just loaded and run Linux UbuntuX64 within windows and at no time did i see the "bluetooth" that you mentioned.
Maybe try deleting the file you have of Linux and download it again then burn it to a CD and load it from that (it worked for me)
