Not had that one but I've had many similar, they are all Junk, to my knowledge no Revenue service contacts you via email. Hell you can barely speak to them on the phone, it's usually all done via physical paperwork.

This is based on tax experience in both the UK and Canada.

Yeah I did, it's all pretty lame really and unfortunately there are some people who will fall for it.
I used to get the ones that said something like

"We have a dorment bank account with $500,000 in it which is to be dispursed to various employees and family but we need your help to transfer it from Africa to the US, if you would let us deposit the amount into your bank account we could transfer the funds and would gladly give you 5% for your troubles, please forward us your banking details"

I had a few people ask me if it was real and worth doing, to which I replied "NO!!!..Don't be so gullible"

As the economy continues to tank these scams will become more prevalent and they will start to refine there craft so it will get harder for the average person to detect. I always tell people, if you didn't initiate the call or solicit the email then respond to them.

You're nicer than I am. I would tell them, "yes, but it 's a really complicated process. Why don't you give me all your bank information, and I will take care of the leg work for you?"

    ...

    What?

We are alerted of these scams by our works IT manager. The employment network has a share system, where if one business has just one employee who reports something phishy or even receives a dodgy phone call, that business informs all the other businesses it has contact with by e-mail, giving details of the scam, copies of which are displayed for all to see. Don't know if this practice is in itself common, but it's a very effective way of informing a lot of people of the latest attempt to part them from their hard earned.

One of many, many scam versions out there. The greedy and immoral will always prey on the gullible and ignorant. Just the way of things.

What does irritate me, is when people ask me for advice, so I tell them not to divulge any important info on the net - so they tell me I'm just paranoid. Next thing you know, “Whah!, whah! I'm in trouble!”. rolleyes
