AVG 8 won't update.

Thankyou for taking the time to view this:
My AVG 8 won't update. AVG says Antivirus & Antispyware database outdated.
I am unable to install newer version of AVG because my ISP disconnects me after 2 hours and it takes longer than that for full AVG download.

Can anyone advise me, please?

 

forgot to mention I am on dial-up.

 

I forgot how slow dialup is. you have to configure your dial up not to disconnect after being idle.
I don't think, your IPS limits how long you can stay connected

my ISP is Tesco.net and unfortunately they disconnect after 2 hours no matter what I'm working on. I have appealed to them not to disconnect me while downloading software that takes longer than 2 hours, explaining my reasons, but they still do.
The AVG 8 free was downloaded from a disc (given by a friend) in July 2008.
It stopped working properly after Windows downloaded its latest service pack 3.
Don't know how to get it to download updates and PC is now vulnerable.
Please advise.
