** I posted this thread a few months back and someone very kindly answered to it. Unfortunately i have not had the time to look at it til now and the thread has gone and i didn't get the name of the person to thank them. I'm sorry for this, but if you're out there still, thank you for taking the time to reply.**

Hello, just lately i do not seem to be able to find my cookies folder. I am now having trouble ordering items from sites such as Amazon.co.uk and M&S. On Amazon it tells me that my cookies are not enabled. I have checked Internet tools on security and privacy and they are both set to medium as recommended. Also on microsoft auto update i cannot update and install "Security Update for Microsoft Office XP (KB921596)". Does anyone have any idea what is going on????? I am using AVG free 8.0 and windows defender seems to have sprung a life of it's own and has started up in the toolbar on bottom left and i cannot stop it. This all seems to have started at the same time. Confused muchly!

    Regards

    Dave.

I looked at the internet options and it just gives me the options of what degree to set my cookies folder to. What i have lost, and i probably did not make this very clear, is the cookies folder automatically put in by microsoft. I know i used to have one and it was useful to see what other people were up to on the computer when i was not here. I have had a couple of silly viruses and ad problems lately and i want to find out where they are coming from, i miss my cookies folder. It is not on any of the user accounts. Any clues?

Have tracked down your previous thread. Showed only one response.
And the winner is (drum roll) Mark Trent.

Thanks for hunting this chap down, any way you can send my thanks to him??

I followed the link and looked it all places idendified as the location for the cookies folder, but to no avail. I haven't even got Temp Internet Files. Is is something that just happens when you upgrade to IE7? there is a comment made on the link that it happens then. I always have my hidden files shown, but it is not there either. A real puzzler..... unless IE7 gets rid of it not needing it anymore.

    regards

    Dave.

Have been unable to find him now. Am trying to find out what happened. Not even on members list.

Just copy and paste the path above into a Windows Explorer window address bar and edit the username to your account name (with no <>'s). It should take you to the cookie folder.

Thanks to both, please don't spend too much time looking for him, it's only because i feel bad for not repying to him.

Sach2, cheers, i put it in to a WE bar and it produced the files in the temp internet files, so that's a start, it also gave me the location, which i followed but the folder is not being shown there. My 'Hidden files and folders' are not hidden yet still no folder! any more ideas??????

    Dave.

Had a response to my search.
It seems that the person you were wondering about is no longer with us.

In tools>Folder Options>View tab scroll down to "Hide System Files" and uncheck that box. I believe Temp Internet Files are not only hidden but considered system files as well.

I guess i'm what they're talking about when they say 99% of computer problems sit in front of the screen! What a pillock! :-o

Thanks to all for your help, and thanks to you Sach2 for helping me with the solution, i've already found lots of dodgy stuff, i'll have to be having words with the youngsters!!

    A very happy Dave. :):):):):):):):)

Glad it was something simple. :)

Might be a wise choice to Hide System Files before turning the machine back over to the youngsters. It really does helps avoid accidental deletion.
