Give it a few hours before any results show up. But I think the Geeks have a new Folder.;) Team Tim&DianeGeek anyone want to join? Kinda lonely with just one GPU. folding.

I have Folded for points, now folding for good thoughts. Sending good thoughts as well.

Mixed bag of emotions. We saw the surgeon and although he is positive about a favorable outcome, it will not be the simple "nip and tuck" we were hoping for.

She is scheduled for the 19th......at which time they will make a 10" incision from back to front, remove a rib and then remove the upper lobe of her left lung and her lymph nodes on that side.

She is expected to remain in hospital for at least a week.

They could take a portion of the lobe, but he said that the statistics show that the outcome favors taking the lobe.

She is a tough bird and will no doubt give the staff hell......:)

I had ALL my upper lobes on both lungs removed, no problem, breath much better.
I thought it would look weird on the ex ray when I saw my respiratory doctor but it fills in the space.
I'm sure she will do fine. ;)

Still doing my very unusual prayer thing... if the surgeon is optimistic that's a good thing, right?

Besides Tim, your wife is lucky. She's got you in her corner. ;)

Wishing and hoping the surgery is a success, the marvels of modern medicine I have great hopes she will come through fine, indeed give the staff hell (patients give me hell even when they are not in my clinic route, wrong place wrong time is me).

Ah, i just hopped in in the middle :-o

It seemed like that was going on, but i didn't want to bring it up, if it wasn't. Didn't want to fuel any fires. But having gone back and read the rest of the posts, things look positive! Her drive and energy will definitely make the recovery a lot easier and faster. :dancer

Eh, she's married to TimW ... LOL She'd have to be tough ;)

In seriousness, anyone who is in a good and stable marriage is in a better position to survive anything than a single woman is. Based on Tim's posts he thinks the world of his wife... which means she is lucky to have him with her. He'll be the difference. :)

    Then she's a goner for sure......rolleyes.

Now it's just two weeks.....and she will be doing "the list" before she goes in. Making sure I get fed, the animals are taken care of, etc. (She seems to think I'm a cripple...:confused .....just because I can barely walk! Now that is just rude!! I am a big boy and can take care of myself!! ......Wait....NO, your right, honey, I need a nurse!! :-D) But at least it keeps her mind occupied.:)

I appreciate all of your support in this! We know it will all work out fine, in spite of that nagging small kernel of doubt in our minds.

Long day.....I am exhausted. So this will be a short update....surgery started at 8am and was supposed to take 2 -2 1/2 hours. They were done in 1 1/2. Surgeon said it was text book, absolutely perfect. They removed the upper left lobe of her left lung and the adjoining lymph nodes. They took a look at the "spot" on her right lung and it was nothing. Recovery was 4 hours and then she was moved to an intermediate care unit where he will have more intense supervision for a day or two.

She has an epidural that will stay for 4 -5 days for pain. A chest tube for drainage ( which there is little of :) )...and lots of other monitor and tubes connected to her. She is in good care, doing really good and we are hoping that she will be a model patient.

My biggest concern was her mental state going into the surgery as we had to put down one of our horses late Wed. night. In some ways, being in hospital may be the best place to deal with the loss.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. You are a wonderful group of people.

    Hi Tim,
I am a newbie, however, I wanted to add my prayers and positive intentions for your and your wife! So grateful things went well!

As a 15 year cancer survivor, I promise you that your love and support have definitely made the difference. :) ( as well as her PMA and sense of humor)

My aunt had the same surgery about 19 months ago. She has had 3 courses of chemo. She is 75 and still go strong!

Please get some rest you need to take care of yourself too!
