HP Photosmart c4280 having scanning problems

I have recently gotten a new Dell Inspiron 530 computer, OS is Vista. I have a HP Photosmart c4280 printer. I am able to print from the printer and copy something with no problems. However, I am trying to scan something and it is saying that the USB cord is not connected, when in fact it is connected. I have unplugged the USB and plugged it back in and restarted the computer and nothing changed. I also have tried plugging the USB into different USB slots on the computer. I do have the installation disk for the printer if needed. Thank you in advance for your help. Please keep in mind, I am still learning this system (Vista) and learning about computers, so bear with me.

have you tried re installing the drivers

thank you, I tried the thing where it says it will check my system for the current drivers, and it said I was up to date, and it still does not work. :confused

 

what did you use to check if the drivers were up to date.
It's not that the drivers are up to date it could be that part of the drivers is corrupt . uninstall the printer , then run ccleaner then reinstall the driver from the link to the HP site. then see if it works

I'm sorry, I left my computer on this thread while I went to the grocery store and one of my boys left the "woohoo" comment. I will try what you suggested in the morning regarding the uninstalling and reinstalling of the printer.
