.avi files that play fine on my desktop yet won't play on new laptop due to error COOD1199. I'm running Vista Home Basic and WMP11. Is there a codec pack I need to install or any other solution? I've been searching the web for the solution to no avail so thought I'd ask the experts.

    Cheers, Lee

I'm not an expert but I hate Windows Media Player for the issue you are talking about. I downloaded KMplayer from Major Geeks download page under Multimedia. It plays files that Media Player gets it's panties in a wad over. Give that a try or maybe download a couple of players and decide which one you like best.

This page has links to download Vista Codec Packs, only one codec pack installed at a time. If you decide to try another codec pack uninstall the one you are using first. If the file won't open in WMP by a left click on the avi file try a right click on the file and choose open with... then choose WMP. It worked for me on WMP 12, Windows 7.
