Yuck! This stuff is like bitter, chalky, fruit flavored puke! :puke I am on anti-biotics, so I have to eat this stuff. I bought some Yoplait, I have to choke it down. Did I buy an inferior brand, or is this stuff just freaking nasty or some kind of freakish acquired taste?

Any yogurt advice would be greatly appreciated! :-D

I love it and natural greek yogurt is my fav.

Think its an aquired taste, but you could get some natural yogurt and mix something you do like the taste of in it, I mix it with musili as the nuts and bran gives it a sweeter taste.

Bitter, chalky??? That's not yoghurt, it should be mildly sour with a smooth almost creamy texture. Since you're on a-b's that may be changing your taste buds. I really like Danone Activia with it's live bacterial culture which the a-b's invariably kill. Good luck.

@Halo ya on natural yoghurt, used to make my own and maybe I should start again as I still have the incubator.

I just saw an ad on tv where now they make asodophollis in a pill form Pearls I believe is the name.
    Yep, found it http://www.biogro.us/acidophiluspearls.html
personally I would rather do the Yogurt. Danone Activia is what I do too.

@ augie, oh yeah, yogurt making machines were a big rage for a while along with beer and wine bread sprouts. I have pots and pans is all :-o

Sour, bitter, it is nasty! I may look into the pills Darlene, but I have trouble swallowing them. I just read the dosage on the antibiotics, 4 freaking pills a day! I will have no digestive system left! :cry

Might go by TCBY today for lunch. The hamburger place will miss me. ;)

Thanks for the info on better brands of the 'food'.

Well I am a yoghurt lover yes. nothing better for a healthy breakfast if you for some reason can't stomach the thought of a fry up or even toast.

I bang a pot in when we make a curry to make it milder if ya went overboard with the spices.

And what's that yoghurty kinda dip there is, or am I thinking of mint dip with Indian food ? :confused at any rate ---> this thread's got my mouth watering :drool

LOL Kes, thinking of what Halo said about Greek yogurt, tzaziki (sp?) comes to mind.:drool I thought that yogurt was so mild and bland on it's own that everyone could enjoy it. I guess not.

Actually I looked that up. It does with some antibiotics, this one says a few drinks won't be detrimental, but it might intensify drowsiness. :-D

Fred, I like Yoplait light Peach or blueberry. The vanilla is alright, and I add a shot of Torani flavored strawberry syrup. By itself it is not so hot.

Maybe I just ain't a yogurt person. But the Yoplait Peach Banana, and the Strawberry just were rough to get down. Almost makes me want to eat a salad!:-D I will have to go to a larger store Sunday and check out different types and some stuff to blend in with it. Maybe some Bacardi 150 proof...:cool

    Thanks for the ideas folks!

I like yogurt. Wouldn't say I love it, but eat it once in a while.

Try the kid yougurt, they have tons of sugar in them. LOL

    Trivial fact about yogurt:

Does your dog have gas? Give him/her a tablespoon of yogurt a day. They love it AND it gets rid of the stench. :-D

I have seen some of the things dogs like to sniff and eat. It does not surprise me they would like yogurt.

If you have a Kosher dairy section at your store, try Leben strawberry yogurt, yummy. Chocolate is good too, but has artificial flavor added... defeats the purpose of eating yogurt imo.

sn: not sure if makes your dog have flatulence, not tested. Add charcoal to dogs diet helps, you can buy charcoal caps.

I don't know if there is a Kosher section at the store I am going to today Cat_W. I have seen Lebens, will see if they still have it. Is it Kosher for Passover? :-D

I have a friend that is Jewish, wow, they go hard core on the food rules!

We've a very large Orthodox population in this area so our local "main" store is very large and about half the store kosher. Me being curious I tend to buy both reg. and kosher foods and actually prefer some on the kosher brands/items.

Amusing story, a young Orthodox couple on the block forgot to turn off the light bulb in refer and they couldn't touch it due to the holiday. So rang my bell and told me that there was a problem with the refer (they can't ask you to do it either) So it took me about five min. to figure out what they wanted me to do (unscrew the light bulb for them).

    info on the holiday http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electricity_on_Shabbat

Kosher is at all times a way of eating for Orthodox people and most of the food is yummy imo. It does take more time re prep and following the rules though but I guess if raised kosher it becomes second nature.

I LOVE Kosher pickles. They just taste better. ;) But the rules on food prep are strict! Heck I will cook dinner in the same skillet I cooked breakfast in!

My current gf was really taken aback when she moved in, as I told her, this pan will never see dish soap, ever! Salt, water oil is fine but that's it! I'm willing this and one other pan to my kids, my folks bought them in the late 40's and it still looks like new.:) The original non-stick pans though one has to use them.

I got some old school skillets myself augie! I got a couple from my grandmother, one from my mom, these are the tried and true seasoned stuff. You can't buy that.

  30. buggabear

    buggabear MajorGeek

I've have several case iron skillets that I got 16 years ago. No one ever told me that you couldn't put them in the dishwasher. i made that mistake once 15 years 11 month 29 days ago and haven't made it since. After I, should I say my wife spent hours seasoning it. In one dishwasher cycle it washed or scrubbed away the seasoning, heat dried it to a rustish brown color never to be used again. I think I could have saved it but my wife said that the rust in the metal probably wouldn't be good for us.
If you think about it, it's a good way never to have to wash dished again

Too bad bug, you could have saved it easily though it seems wifey really tried her best. Where you guys went wrong was continuing to use the dishwasher which uses a very alkaline soap and made the rust form on the pan too.

BTW, unless one has hemachromatosis I woudn't worry about the the rust or as it's called 'iron oxide'. Women are always encouraged to take in more iron.

Just to finish this off, I would have scoured the rust off by hand, oiled the sucker completely and put it in a 350 oven for an hour, you'd be surprised at how it turns out! Glossy black!:cool

Yoplait? Isn't that french for regurgitated? Bwa ha ha ha ha!

*cough* I just buy the Wal-Mart brand, and it's delicious. You're not getting low fat are you? If you are that accounts for the nasty taste.

Cast Iron is handwash only duh. Re-seasoning is a matter of making bacon. Mmm... bacon.

About the cast iron, I heard it leaches into your food, which could be a good thing, if you need iron.
Unless you dispose of it in your system it could be toxic. It keeps building up and the only way is to bleed. So unless your a woman of child bearing years or a man how gives blood, it might be bad.

Without reading the distinguished looking Dr. Weil's post, I bet you're talking about hemachromatosis. I read one of his books and was not impressed at all, saw him PBS pledge drives too. That's a pretty rare disease though a friend has it. The iron that leaches from a pan is negligible in the grand scheme of things.

  45. darlene1029

    darlene1029 A Grand Lady- R.I.P. 06/06/2012

Actually I didn't even look at Weil's site, I did a search to back up my comment and saw him and thought who better?
No I heard it years ago, quit using my iron skillet then.

PS just took a peek and did see that word you used (hemachromatosis), as far as I got I hate to read, shhh
