    Hi

i have a dell insipron 1525, 3GB ram, 160GB Hd, intel duo core and its slow.

i have Vista. it was working a week a go but however it is extremely slow. i have run an AVG scan in safe mode but still no luck. i also tried to add more ram using the readyboot but it is still slow.

Can it be a virus, malware or trojean.

    thanks in advance.

Back up all the files you need, then reinstall vista again!
    Fresh start!

Last Tuesday was patch Tuesday. Perhaps one of the updates had an adverse effect on your computer.
If you have a restore point, try restoring to Monday the 9th and see if the computer seems more responsive. If it does, turn off Windows automatic update, go to Windows update and only select one of the critical updates. Reboot, work with the computer a bit and see if it seems the same or if it has slowed down. If it has slowed down, note the update then remove it.
It might take a while to troubleshoot only doing one update at a time but if that's the problem, it might be worth the time spent.

Not to be bitchy with you, but what does that solve and one doesn't learn why it happened in the first place? Seriously man, I am so sick of reinstalling due to my own efforts that I certainly don't want to give a free pass to what the real culprit was/is. No one learns unless there's a bit of :bangheadaround.:-D

just personal preference i guess, if you were to clean "fix" your computer there isnt a guarantee that everything will return to the condition you had it in when you first bought the computer
By reinstalling your OS you guarantee a fresh start even tho you might spend a little more extra time on it
I tend to reinstall my OS every year, and in the mean time try and keep the computer as clean as possible!

I can understand that but most folks are not geeks who are willing to reinstall and have their rigs setup properly to be able to at least getting a rudimentary rig going. I agree with you on a reinstall every year but that's just me.;)

i agree with you 100%, but in saying that, it could take days if not weeks in some cases to find out problems with your computer, ringing tech support or waiting for replys on online forums;) it can get very frustrating!

Anyway i think we should stick to the topic at hand and try to help out this fine young man in his endeavours to fix his sssssslow OS problems
i think you should reinstall vista :-D

You really need to identify what is causing the slowness because it may just as quickly reappear after a simple reinstall.

Reinstalls are just a blind way of hiding problems, whether it's data or activity related.
