Converting Word to html

I want to convert some pretty large, already written documents that were created in .doc format so I can post them to blogs and everything2.

I know I could just start over using the WYSIWYG editor, and re-enter the timeless prose. But I am Lazy. I tried saving the .doc file as .txt, losing all formatting, then convert that txt file to html. But I end up with a funny looking document. Saving it directly from Word in html format also seems to put some unusual codes that the blogs don't accept. I believe they are xml.

Anyway, is there a converter that takes a Word document and changes it to plain vanilla html?

It's true that that tutorial walks you through converting. But it is complicated, essentially what I have to do now.I was hoping some clever MG had had this problem in the past and had coded up a direct solution, something that would inspect the hidden formatting codes embedded by Word and convert them to their equivalent or nearest equivalent in html. I may try converting the doc to pdf and come at it from that direction.

Why start over if you use a WYSIWYG editor. Just copy and paste from Word to your WYSIWYG editor. You might try KompoZer 0.8a1.

 

That's what I do after converting the doc to txt. When I try to C & P a doc file, it has so many funny codes that have to be removed that it takes too long. For now, I am doing the doc to txt to html route.

I will try that wysiwyg editor.
