Conficker C - Defender vs. Spybot S&D?

Ok, I "think" that I am about as protected as I can be (at the moment - at least as much as I can "afford") against this pending April 1 act of international terrorism (Conficker C, etc., etc.) - however ... I'm wondering if I can do any better.

I do have SpywareBlaster installed, running, and just updated (24MAR09). I recently switched from Windows Defender to Spybot S&D (with the Tea-Timer), but am wondering if I might possibly be able to do better?

I've seen a good bit lately on Spyware Terminator being pretty good with real-time detection/protection, and I've seen some rather disparaging comments/reviews about Spybot - specifically it real-time protection.

Any opinions/advice/suggestions/recommendations/etc. would be GREATLY appreciated ... !!!

Hello There,

I dont think you can do any better spybot search and destroy is a good program have you immunize your browsers from spyware threats on your computer.

I have got AVG 8 up to date and spybot and zonealarm firewall

ill offer my lil bit of advice =D

i recommend you back up all your data to an external hard drive, or if need be create a second partition and move it all over.

format your computer - (the partition that has 'just' windows on it)

reinstall a fresh copy of windows, use the trial of 'agnitium outpost firewall pro' and the trial of 'eset nod32' and then add those spyware programs on.

then - on the actual 1st of april, don't turn your pc on.

follow them - and your allmost guaranteed not to have anything happen, and yes - im saying allmost, lol. nothings certain.

hmm, i would LAUGH if all my uni computers went down - there terrible with security =D

Hmmmmm! And you were asking about helping in the Malware Forum?????

We have easily been fixing Conficker problems since before the big antivirus companies even named it or new it existed.

However grc123 did not say they had the infection. They just said they wanted to be protected against a potential infection. The proper way to do that is to get all of your Windows Updates installed and get the current updates for all of your security software. SpywareBlaster, Spybot with Teatimer, Windows Defender, and Spyware Terminator will not protect you from infections like Conficker. As stated above you need all of your updates and you need to have a very good and updated antivirus program installed.

with all respect - if you saw all my post i did recommend installing a good AV, the only reason i suggested formatting is because personally i haven't dealt with conflicker yet - this is one of the first times ive heard of it, i keep my computers, my friends computers, and most of my familys computers very secure. it takes half an hour to format a computer, its just a nice quick solution if you've allready been infected - saves wasting time, maybe i should have been more detailed.

Format your computer, get a 30 day trial of antivirus and keep your computer off on Aprils 1st? Seriously? Appreciate you wanting to help on Majorgeeks, please slow down a bit and stick to what your sure of, since advice like this I am afraid is not helpful Please be sure of an answer before replying rather then just trying to help, we have a lot of knowledgeable people here that also help. I dont want to be rude to you, but I will have to delete posts with answers like this and then were both wasting our time. Thanks for understanding.
