Interesting stuff on how the brain interprets information and how your eyes also translate this, but FOX News must be having a very slow day (Obama not sacked any other CEOs today) as that article is from around 2003-ish.

roflmao Ya, really. There's more important stuff going on, right?:confused Anyways, I was able to read that. Seems as long as the first letter or two are there our brains do a fuzzy search and bring it into context.

On the subject of words, can anyone decipher what the word below says? It's a common English word in everyday use. You can cheat and Google it if you want, but at least spend some time thinking about it.

    GHOTI

I know it's been around a lot, but I'd never seen an explanation like the one in the fox news link, and the links contained therein. It is pretty interesting stuff if you ask me.

Forget the beer, how 'bout flank steak, in A1 for 48hrs, grilled perfectly pink and rare (that doesn't mean raw) and some Merlot?

And, oh yeah, the HELL with SOME, KILL THE BOTTLE!!!!!!!

    :-D

Merlot, to me, is just not worthy of a good steak. It lacks a lengthy finish, which is how I like my wine to go with my steaks (very spicy steaks). :-D I would recommend a nice Cabernet Sauvignon, a Meritage (yes, usually has some Merlot), or if you want to live on the edge, a Syrah or Petite Syrah or one of the Rhone wines from France can liven up a steak dinner.

Merlot just depresses me. Sorry Mimsy. :-D

Oh yeah man, you can't take flank steak past the medium-rare stage, never!:eek Enjoy the Merlot but I'll have a few bottles of beer instead.;)

Why is it that everyone is talking alcohol with meals. I can't do that. Am I weird if I say that I have to have a cuppa tea when I eat. I can eat then drink or drink then eat but never together, doesn't taste right. I don't drink wine but Guinness is a staple. Should I see a psychologist?

Ohh Joey! You have never taken a bite of steak and combined a sip of a complimentary wine?! It is like a whole new flavor dimension! Here is something relatively inexpensive for you to try. Get a Piesporter (German Riesling wine) look for a Spatelase, and some Havarti cheese. I personally stay away from German wines in the brown bottle, the ones in the blue or green bottles are better tasting to me. I am not making that part up, the brown bottles are used with wines with a bit of a metallic taste due to the soil.

Take a bite of the Havarti cheese, and a sip of lightly chilled Spaetlese Piesporter wine, enjoy! Also very tasty with ham or turkey.

Lots of foods go well with beer if that is your fancy. Food and beverages go hand in hand. The wrong food with the wrong wine will make the wine taste nasty, even if it is a fine wine. It is a different dimension in tasting. And with the £'s you are saving from not smoking, try some new stuff. ;)

Thanks for that, KS. I really appreciate the candid and forthright views you offered in your reply. Must have taken you hours to think your answer through.......;) And I have the nerve to call other MG members sarcastic. :-o

I honestly wouldn't know where to start on selecting a wine for a particular occasion. Never really seized the opportunity to look into it. I think I'll stick to my tea. Me phillistine?

Yeah i got writers block a few times trying to pool all of my extremely complex thoughts together into something straight forward and logical. What i came up with was the product of years spent contemplating the idea of not drinking alcohol with dinner, and instead drinking tea. The idea sent me into a downward spiral of emotions, and i even wrote a book entitled, Joey: The Man, The Tea Drinker where i outline my experiences of deep subjectivity on the matter. It's quite the read; life changing experience... or something.

Tell you what, Fred, I'll give it a shot. I trust the judgement of other members. Not sure the results will be what you want to hear. Will report in due course.

Thanks for that, KS. Made me LOL. Put me in a better fettle after work (stresses thereof and all that.)
