started with Win.Rootkit.bat :(

    Hello and first off may i say Thank you all for the help you give people

    well it all started with sympatico's AV finding a win32 rootkit.bat file every time i started internet explorer and after tring to get there call center to help me out for 3 hrs on a saturday to no results I am now in a situation where i can not do anything in normal mode :( so at this point i loaded Hijackthis in safe mode and have gotten a new log if someone would be so kind as to look it over and help me that would be just AWSOME :)

    I have done all the readme clean up things i could being that combo fix and such wouldn't download for me ither it be broken links or just my dam PC

    But any help would be apreciated

    Hello again :) well i was able to download and run the complete run and clean instruction now :) and theys are the logs I have from the results if anyone can help me out with what eles i need to do

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    You need to attach the 4th log we requested which is from running MGtools. The log file is C:\MGlogs.zip

    HOWEVER, before running MGtools you need to run MSconfig and put your PC into normal startup mode as requested in step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. If you already ran MGtools then put your PC into normal startup mode, reboot, and then run MGtools again. Then attach the log.

    OK I belive i completed all the parts to the run first and if someone would be so kind as to look thru my logs and let me know if there is anything eles i need to do because now the only problem i am having is my Outlook express won't send and recive mail :( well that and the odd freezing of internet explorer

    Until you do what was requested in step 1 of the READ & RUN ME and what I requested in my last message, we cannot continue. The below is an exact quote from step 1:
    After you do this you will have to attach a new log from MGtools again. Do not attach a new log unless you have done the above. Also note that we specifically requested that you download and run MGtools from C:\ and you put it here:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Dan\My Documents\programs\spy remover\from Major geeks\MGtools.exe

    So sorry bout the mixup :( was my bad for forgetting bout the msconfig :confused :zzz

    Now we need to use ComboFix again.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run Ccleaner to clean out only temp files and nothing else!

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Well Ok for as far as things running they seem to be doing ok other than my Outlook Express Mail dosn't seem to conect for me well actualy it dose get mail but it will NOT send mail :confused . And now Start Up of Windows takes longer than i like But i relize that is more so all the programs that start with the Start UP ( if you would be so kind tell me what i can stop @ start up that would be Awsome and maybe how lol )

    But Really things seem to be Up and working Corectly :) And for that I say Thanks

    Hear are the new Logs and I am looking forward to hearing back

    You're welcome.

    This is a topic for the Software Forum, but first check to make sure you have your incoming and outgoing mail servers setup properly and that you are not blocking anything with a firewall.

    Was discusses in step 1 of the READ & RUN ME and also in this current thread in msg # 5 where I gave you this link: Dealing with Startup Processes

    Your logs are clean.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
