Screen Capture Video & Sound -- Non DirectX -- Suggestions?

I'm looking for a *free* program that will capture both video & sound from a NON-DirectX app. Vista Home Basic. I've tried CamStudio and got awful "farty" sound and awful framerate, and I've also tried Fraps 1.9 only to find out it only works in DirectX apps. (I'm asking because I want to make a video of a game that doesn't use DirectX to show how sucky I am at it :-D.) Googling and searching MG failed to turn up anything that I could use.

Any other suggestions? Thanks.

It didn't work for me.

The video came out extremely choppy and no sound, and I can't record using "stereo mix" as it's not in my recording settings (even with showing disabled devices)....

 

That feature can be turned on.

Control Panel -> Sound -> Recording tab -> Right click on the background and choose "show disabled devices" -> Right click on Wave Out Mix (Stereo Mix) and click enable. It should now work the same way as Wave Out Mix (Stereo Mix) in Windows XP, allowing you to record the sounds your computer plays.

You have what's needed. A new computer and the program. So the solution is there. Try to do more searching and reading at PapaJohns site. Also at Windows Movie Makers. We can't really compete with them. They are the only experts and have been at it for years. They know all there is to know about Windows Movie Maker. They have made all the fixes and workarounds, that the rest of us use. They have also written small programs for WMM. Even Microsoft refer to them for support.

Thanks -- I've tried several -- it's either shareware (I don't like shareware) or doesn't work.

I think the problem is with the waveout thing its a generic soundcard driver, but I don't know my exact soundcard so I can find drivers.
