emachines E4026 System Restore disk needed

    Hi folks.
I'm trying to repair an XP install on my Aunt's machine, it is an emachines E4026 (a shamefully gutless machine with barely enough RAM to start the OS - I find it shocking they had the cheek to sell it in the first place - but I digress).
I've backed up all the important files and am now ready to run the system recovery from the recovery partition.

Pressing F11 on startup gives a splash screen saying "PC Angel System Recovery"
Following that is a blue screen with, at the top, "emachines System Recovery" and a line at the bottom saying "Version 3.0".

    A dialog pops up saying:
    "System Restore Environment is incomplete!
    System Restore reinstalls the environment.
    OK"

Clicking OK gives another dialog saying:
"Please insert System Restore CD/DVD #1 now"

I don't have any disks available to me. No recovery disk and no XP disk. The system runs on XP Home, I only have an XP-Pro disk so no help at all there.

I'd like to avoid a full re-install of XP if possible, and I absolutely do not want to go and buy a retail copy of XP as the system already has an OEM version and valid product key.

Is there a way to get an iso of this disk from a legitimate (or at very least, safe) source? I'll have to wait until Tuesday to contact emachines for the disk and I could do with getting the computer straightened out well before then.

    Cheers folks.

I've gone through e-machines before myself, and they were very helpful. The discs (T2542) shipped to my house were just under twenty bucks, which is way better than off the shelf. I would advise biting the bullet for the weekend, and getting your hands on the software.

And, also ask them about repairing the recovery partition. I would think the discs would do that automatically on re-install, but just double check to make sure.

    That's more than I hoped it'd cost.
Well, I can't really see any way around it unless they find a disk at home, so I guess it's time to break the bad news and tell them it'll be next week before I give the machine back.

Unless someone else chips in with a great idea about how to get a recovery disk roughly now. :)

Problem is, even if someone has one, they still have to mail it out. Considering an OS upgrade disc is at least eighty dollars US currency, it's a really good deal getting it from e-machines. A straight up OS disc for XP can be a little over a hundred.

Also, you could check ebay for Windows OS, but yet again, you have to find it cheap, and wait...

If it was possible to get a cheap/free iso download to burn my own it'd be quick and handy though.
I know £20 isn't a terribly high price, I'll just be glad to avoid going down the XP installation route - I really don't fancy going through all that if I can avoid it.

Good luck with it, and if you run into any other problems, feel free to post!

    Hey BigShot
I happen to be checking on one of my threads and seen yours thought I might be able to help as I also have a e machine as well(W2925) so I Google your number and found this sight. Don't know what the exchange in currency is but they have a Iso download there for your Aunts pc. I don't know if this will be helpful but it's worth a shot. Sure hope it works.Good luck.
