    Hello,

    I have completed all the steps in the "READ & RUN ME FIRST" guide but was unable to follow the Instructions for Combofix as Bleepingcomputer.com loads to a blank page & in addition the Combofix software downloads with the error "Unable to find source"? Strangely a Combofix icon was left on my desktop and double clicking on it did generate a report which I have attached. With that said, here is were I'm at:

    My browser (Firefox 3.0.8) is being redirected every time I perform a search but if I click the back button I am taken to the page I was looking for. Also, Firefox crashes constantly and quite often it crashes before it even loads! Another thing that happens is that my computer will start dragging to the point of being unusable which is for about 5 minutes or so and occurs at least once a day. I also get "paging file full" messages here are there and REGEDIT has been disabled! Now, one of the free spyware programs pulled up this file (cvkiy.tol) as being HIGH RISK. Not sure if it actually is dangerous or if it just has the right characteristics. It is located in the "Local Settings Folder". Anyhow, it doesn't delete. And lastly, here is what software I have run thus far or are currently running:

    Avira AntiVir, Comodo Firewall, Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, cwshredder, A-Squared, PC Tools AntiVirus, Adv. System Protector, ATF, Adv. SystemCare, CCleaner, Glary Utilities , Startup Mechanic, Abexo Reg cleaner, Eusing Reg. Cleaner, RegClean, Reg. Mechanic, Wise Reg. Cleaner, Ad-Aware, Spybot.....

    This post contains the Superspyware log, Malwarebytes log, Combofix log (??) & MGtool logs. Thank you to anyone in advanced that can offer a solution or further advice for dealing with.

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O1 - Hosts: 91.212.65.122 browser-security.microsoft.com
    O1 - Hosts: 91.212.65.122 spyware-protector-2009.com

    O1 - Hosts: 91.212.65.122 secure.spyware-protector-2009.com
    O1 - Hosts: 91.212.65.122 knocker

    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {F4D76F09-7896-458a-890F-E1F05C46069F} - (no file)
    O20 - AppInit_DLLs:

    NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now we need to use ComboFix again.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    Code:
    [COLOR=black][FONT=Arial]KILLALL::[/FONT][/COLOR]

    [FONT=Arial][COLOR=black]File::[/COLOR][/FONT]
    [FONT=Arial][COLOR=black]C:\DOCUME~1\DEFAUL~2\LOCALS~1\Temp\cvkiy.tol[/COLOR][/FONT]

    [FONT=Arial][COLOR=black]Registry::[/COLOR][/FONT]
    [FONT=Arial][COLOR=black][HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32][/COLOR][/FONT]
    [FONT=Arial][COLOR=black]"aux2"=- [/COLOR][/FONT]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOWbefore continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run Ccleaner to clean out only temp files and nothing else!

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hey, I really appreciate what all you guys are doing here! On another note, I have attached the 2 logs you requested (see below). Now, Hijackthis ran to completion BUT DID HAVE AN INTERMEDIATE ERROR. Here are the details:

    An unexpected error has occured at procedure:
    modRegistry_IniGetString(sFile=system.ini, sSection=boot, sValue=Shell)
    Error #5 - Invalid procedure call or argument
    Windows version: Windows NT 5.01.2600
    MSIE version : 8.0.6001.18702
    HijackThis version: 2.0.2

    As for my computer, it seems to be running very well! No redirects, no crashes & regedit is accessible. And just for my information could you tell me what type of virus/spyware this was? Just curious. Also, if there is anything else that you see or that can be tweaked please let me know.

    Thanks again, Parsec

    This may not be due to any remaining malware but let's finish your cleanup and see what happens. You have a lot of left overs from various security programs we will remove too.

    Uninstall the below software:
    Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4
    Viewpoint Media Player (Remove Only) <-- should have been uninstalled in step 1 of the READ ME

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!

    After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

    Now run Ccleaner to clean out only temp files and nothing else!

    Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

    Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    If FireFox is still crashing then uninstall it. REBOOT!!! Then after reboot, delete the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder. Then download and install FireFox from here: Mozilla FireFox

    Chaslang,

    Hello and Thank You for your assistance!

    After running Combofix I was forced to use Recovery Console because my computer was freezing at the login screen. Anyhow, I was able to get it back up and running and I continued on completing the steps you supplied including removing firefox. Unfortunately, no matter what browser I use I still have the same problems. I have tried Avant, K-Meleon, Explorer, Firefox...they all crash in one way or another over and over again??? For example, the browser may just abruptly shut down (which is most frequent) or I may get a "Not responding" or a "memory error at line so and so" or in Explorer it might cycle through "tab recovered" numerous times again or my computer may just become unresponsive all together or will post an "out of memory" alert. I also get "Done with errors" and "Done" with an exclamation mark or just a blank page or application failed to initialize etc. These are just a few of the examples of browser problems I am experiencing. Essentially, using the internet is practically impossible for continuous periods of time. Lastly, I have attached the files below that you requested.

    Thank you so much again,
    Parsec

    Your combofix log is too incomplete to be of any use. You would need to run the fix again with all protection software disabled; however perhaps you should just post about your problems in the Software Forum and provide and Event Viewer log ( see this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427 ) that shows the applications crashing. It does not appear that your problems are due to malware.

    chaslang,

    Thank you for all your help! I will head over to the Software Forum per your recommendation. I have gone ahead and attached what I think is a COMPLETE combofix log (below). If you see anything please let me know. Thanks again...

    You're welcome. Combofix removed everything we wanted it to remove. ;)

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
