Ok, so I'm attempting to download/install a trial version of World of Warcraft for my son. So far, it's been about 4 HOURS (on a slow DSL), and it says it's at "3%" - 280 MB of 3.2 GIG??? At this rate, this will take a week!!! There's GOT to be a faster way to do this - no??

    Thanks in advance ...

They use to have trial dvd disks at wal-marts and best buys and the like , you may want to call around.

Well, thanks, but I'm not sure I understand the torrent thing. I had disabled the "P2P" shield on my antivirus to see if it would speed-up this download. Should I have not done that?

I would run to the store and get a trial CD. Problem with Torrents is they are full of illegal downloads. Yes, plenty of legit downloads as well, but you need to be VERY careful that you are downloading the WoW trial and not a full version. Some people play on private servers since you can not play on Blizzard servers without an account. So, type in WoW trial or run to your local Gamestop for a demo CD.

Wow (no pun intended) - this seems very confusing. I did type in "Trial" on my search (took it from this site: https://signup.worldofwarcraft.com/trial/index.html) - again, I'm really confused.

I mean, my son has a W.o.W account at his home, with his mom ... could I have accessed that account here (at his dad's house)? When I went to download this 10-day free trial/demo, it gave me two options - one for current or former users, and one for new people. I chose new, because I didn't think there was any other way to do it on a different PC. Am I screwin-up here?

Not sure I gotcha, but if you have a username and password you can logon wiith it anywhere. If you want to do a trial, you might need to uninstall it from your machine.

wow (again) - and thanks again. Sounds like when my son wakes-up in the morning, I can just have him logon w/his username & password. Yep, I'm an idiot all right ....

    Thanks to all ...

Ok, so here's the latest on this deal ....

After approximately eight (8) hours of "10-day Free Trial/Demo" download/install (and at that point it said it was still only at 500 & some MB ... of 3.2 GB - and "5%"!), I stopped it.

My Firefox browser crashed several times during all of this (which I had not seen in YEARS!), and now, the PC seems slow.

Did I do something bad/wrong here? As soon as I stopped the ridiculously-long install, I immediately ran ccleaner, defragged, and restarted. Is there more I should do to wipe this monstrosity from this machine?

Thanks again, and in advance ...

Since your son already has a WoW account on the computer at his mom's house, all you need to do is download the WoW client (the game) onto the computer at your house. You can do so from the official WoW download page. Just scroll down towards the bottom of the page directly below the boxes to the link that reads 'To download the World of Warcraft game client, click here.'. You'll need your son with you to sign onto the site for the download. It is a ~3gig download tho so it may well take a whilealthough even on a slow dsl connection it shouldn't take more than 8 hours. Like has already been said, if you can find a copy at a local game shop all's the better!

I used to play WoW like 5 years ago when it first came out and I remember the stupid long wait times for small updates so Im not surprised the whole game takes so long.

You would save yourself at least 1 day if you go pick up a cd trial in a store

and BTW the trial version and the "real" version are the same thing except you dont get an account code but you get the whole game (you just cant play the full game because you have a trial account) So once you download the trial then thats all you need to play

once you download the trial game all you need to do is buy a code from Wow.com and just set up an account in a few mins.

Be Warned though! that WoW game is like crack and I had to quit because apparently sleep is NOT overrated :-D
