I have been experiencing slower internet speeds lately. My computer is only used for surfing the web, email, some photo lab, and creating Word documents and Excel spreadsheets. I am unsure whether I have any virus/malware on my computer or it is crappy internet service as I live in small town Texas. But I figured that a system cleanup would not hurt so I followed the READ ME... procedures. The scans showed no infections however I will attach them for you to review. I will attach the other attachment as directed. Let me know if you need further info.

More info on computer. Having problems with pictures showing up on webpages and with advertisements. Websites like yahoo, or msn that have advertisements that show up in the beginning cause what seems to be a stall which can eventually lead to the "Internet cannot display webpage" message. As I asked before, is this a computer issue or internet issue?

Based on your logs which are all clean, it appears that you are not having malware problems. You may want to try power cycling your router and cable or DSL modem (which ever you have). Also you may want to try running in safe mode and see how things work. It's possible that it is your connection or it could even be McAfee.

However let's cover all bases and try scanning for rootkits just to be thorough.

Please run this Running GMER to detect rootkits and attach the requested log.

I have downloaded and tried to run GMER a handful of time but it appears to crash...computer screen goes crazy and locks up. It usually goes for about 30 sec to a min. before "crashing". I do not know if this is a log of importance but I did save the log that appears in the beginning. I followed the instructions as they were written but maybe I am doing something incorrectly. Let me know.

McAfee may have gotten in the way and caused the crash. You could try shutting down McAfee and see what happens.

Also just as a test, I want you to run the below tool from McAfee:

    McAfee AVERT Stinger Conficker 10.0.1.534

I tried disabling Mcafee but I still cannot run the GMER. It does the same as before...runs for about a min. then the screen goes haywire. I did run the scan for the Conflicker and it cam back clean. Let me know if you think there is anything else I should do.

Thanks for the help. Your site was a big help.

    You're welcome.

    try the below.

Now let's flush the Java Cache
    • Click Start > Settings > Control Panel
    • Double click the Java icon (be patient, it may take a while to open)
    • Now click the General tab and under the Temporary Internet File area
    • Click the Settings button and then click the Delete Files... button.
    • In the next popup click OK.
If you have multiple Java plugin icons in Control Panel follow the above to clear all their caches.

Now let's flush the FireFox Cache
    To flush your FireFox Cache:
    • click Tools
    • select Options
    • select Privacy
    • in the section labeled Private Data click Clear Now
Now let's flush the Internet Explorer Cache
To flush your Internet Explorer Cache:
    • click Tools
    • Internet Options
    • Now on the General tab and click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too
    • Click OK.
    • When it finishes Click OK.
    Now run Ccleaner!

Download HostsXpert and then follow the below steps.
    • Unzip HostsXpert.zip
    • It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
    • Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
    • Click the Make Writeable? button. (if you only see a Make Read-Only selection, it is already writeable so skip this button).
    • Click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
    • Click the X to exit the program
Now run this Trend Micro Housecall and attach a log.

Let us know how things are working now.

I followed your most recent instructions. I did not find any log from the Trend scan. It came back with a message stating no threats were found. It did however keep prompting about a new kernel to be selected. This did not affect the scan from what the results were. Do I need to install the program, for I have McAfee?

I'm not sure what program you are referring to. The TrendMicro Housecall program is just an online scanner and you already said it did not report any problems.

Did complete all the other steps I gave you?

Are you still having issues with your internet connection? If yes, do you have other PCs on the network and are they also having problems?
