@Halo, et al...Windows 7

Has there been any indication that Windows 7 final release will be available sooner than they thought? I've seen a couple things online indicating this may be the case...

 

I'm not adventurous enough to upgrade. My laptop graphics card is on it's last legs, I think and I want to make it until the release of Windows 7.

Does the RC release possibly indicate an earlier final release do you think?

and as far as my vid card, it's a known prob with this Dell laptop. I'm going to be getting an entire new laptop, so it won't come into play. I just want to wait until Win 7.

I was hoping it would be earlier than Jan 2010.

 

Hi Laura, following is just my guesstimation as even if I did know the release date I would be under NDA not to disclose it until the day of launch as they usually give us a heads up a few days before on the press and content release of a launch.

But going off past betas, the RC due 5th/6th May will likely be only one, however if a showstopper is found in that, it will get a refresh, whether that refresh will get a public launch is debatable, so judging the RC will be last before the RTM build, then a month for RTM to be looked over, I'd guess it would be mid October or early Nov 09 (at a push end Sept but that would be pushing it), but depends on how the RC and RTM builds work, would be foolish to release this Windows version unfinished or with some glaring issues.

I think this is why there has been a vast amount of interim OEM/Partner releases that many have seen leaked, they IMO are nailing the OEM partners in releation to hardware/software compatability and downgradability with hardware to Vista/XP.

To purchase? I may try to upgrade my desktop that I got in December.

 

Laura would wait to read the full MSFT press release on that upgrade as if true to older options like this, there are limitations to how old the PC with Vista is, Dec 08 maybe outsider the date range.
