Why don't I have enough freespace

I downloaded "Ad-aware" to get rid of some spyware. When I tried to install it it says I need 256MB of freespace and will not install. Yet I have 21.1 GB of space. I have windows XP- home. What is wrong and how do I fix?

 

Is your hard drive divided into partitions or is it all drive C? What is the full capacity of your hard drive? What percentage free space do you have?

 

I'd rename the Installation exe to "A" then try reinstall, install into a folder named "A" and untick any option at the end that says update or run at finish ... then find the Ad-Aware exe file in your A folder and rename it to A.exe ... then try running it ....

 

Can you explain how that's going to solve his problem?

 

I know, it sounds stupid lol ... but I had the same problem, and I did that and it worked ... turned out I had some Spyware on the system stopping it from installing ...

 

OK, you're saying he may have spyware. I'll buy that. But, why go through the convoluted approach to installing Ad-aware that you suggested:

Just download it and install it. And, by the way, I think I'd start with something other than Ad-aware, such as Spybot Search & Destroy, Spyware Blaster, or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. They are all available from majorgeeks.com.

 

Agreed ... you can tell I wasn't awake when I wrote that ... but yeah ... the virus wouldn't let me install it until I had named the install exe to something else, and then it wouldn't let the program run as its original name either ...
