Windows update gone bad

Hi everyone, I have a bit of a problem with my computer.
It ran an update for windows and now its not working so well. I cant establish an internet connection (I'm using another PC...), a lot of programs won't work.... :-o
It's a new computer but last week we had a "fun" little problem with it and we restored the system to a point earlier that day, when it was still working and that didn't help. eventually we figured out that there was a system file that was erased and we used the windows installation disc to recover it.
We think that the restoration of the system might have disrupted the previous system update and once the new system update was installed a problem was created.
I tryed to uninstall the system upgrade but the computer won't let me, it's one of the things malfunctioning....
Any advice?

 

First thing I would try would be the system file checker. Open a command window and enter sfc /scannow. If it finds any system files which aren't as they should be (including those changed by Windows Update) it may ask for your Windows installation disk.
