    Fired up Mozialla Firefox this morning and it won't hit any websites. If I select something on my bookmarks it doesn't even pop in to the address menu. I tried turning off the firewall and that doens'nt help. I use NVIDIA's firewall.

    I can still use Microsoft Internet Explorer, so I'm totally out of ideas what might be going on.

    Thanks

    Usually when I encounter that particular problem, my service provider is down for some reason.

    I have verion 6.0.2900.2180.

    Firefox is Ver. 3.0.10.

    Have tried in Safe Mode and that doesn't work. I did uninstall (using Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and re-installed latest version

    try upgrading your IE to version 7 and see if that works.

    Hi DomLuc - the reason I had mentioned the upgrade to IE 7 is because I had the same problem with Firefox and the upgrade worked. :)

    I didn't see the last two replies, but did tried to upgrade to IE 7, but had issues with the file. Finally I just went for IE 8, and that loaded cleanly. Still have the issue with Firefox though. Just fires up with an empty Address bar and nothing will load.

    Hi,
    I'm no expert but I use Firefox only... my version is the latest one: 3.0.10...
    I might be able to give you a little help by looking at the set up of my FF...

    Have you tried looking at your settings in FF?...
    Can you see the toolbars at the top of your browser?...

    If you can... click on :

    Tools > Options > Advanced >

    At the Advanced window, click on the Network Tab...

    Then,on the line that says:

    "Configure how Firefox connects to the Internet... click on "Settings"...

    On that new window you will find a number of choices...

    Mine is set to :

    * No proxy *
    ==========

    There are two other choices there...

    * Auto-detect proxy settings for this network..... and

    * Manual proxy configuration:...

    The rest of the page is blanked out.. and this is what you can see n those blanked out lines:

    HTTP Proxy...........................Port: 0
    Use this proxy server for all protocols
    SSL Proxy............................. Port: 0
    FTP Proxy..............................Port: 0
    Gopher Proxy.........................Port: 0
    SOCKS Host..........................Port: 0
    SOCKS v4........ SOCKS v5

    No Proxy for:.......... localhost, 127.0.0.1
    Example: .mozilla.org, net.nz, 192.168.1.0/24

    Automatic proxy configuration URL:
    ........................................................ Reload
    OK .... Cancel.....

    ~ ~ Everything I wrote in this color is blanked out~ ~

    ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
    I hope this can be of help to you...
    One more thing..on the General Tab... I have the option to have Firefox as the default browser on start up: "checked"
    Good luck!
    not sure if this applies but if you ever installed and older version of fast dial addon it would do exactly what you describe
    newbieputerbuf, what happens if you type a url into the address bar? Say for instance:
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=188903
    That's the link to this thread. What happens if you copy that and paste it into the address bar of Firefox?
    I'm a bit confused here because, even if something is blocking Firefox from accessing sites or the url can't be resolved to an IP address, the url should still show up in the address bar. Some one please correct me if I'm wrong about that.
    Can you check the properties of some of your bookmarks and see if they are correct?
    ShebaBoy - mine is also set to "No Proxy". I tried other selectable settings, to no avail. When it's set to "No Proxy" the little circle thing doesn't even "spin". When set to "Auto Detect Proxy" the little circle "spins" for a few seconds. The real strange thing is I have Accuweather as my home page and when Mozilla Firefox comes up now, the Address bar is totally void of any URL.
    paradoxdream - no dial up add on installed
    plastidust - I've typed various URLs in to the Address window and nothing.
    I did do another Uninstall and did some regedits as suggested by another post, just to assure I had a clean uninstall. Reinstalled and still have same exact issue. Is anyone familiar with NVIDIAs Firewall? I never changed any settings, so don't think this is the issue - as I've disabled the firewall and still have same issue.
    Thanks for all your replies - I have a lot of faith in the brain power of folks on this sight and know that I'll eventually get a solution.
    Did read through the Firefox KB article and walked through it step by stop. Still have the issue. One thing I wasn't sure about is the Proxy settings, but I have a lap top that works fine that is running Mozialla Firefox and is using the wireless router that I have in my home to access the internet. It is set for No Proxy and works just fine with either Firefox or IE. The only difference is the lap top is running Vista, the home PC that is having an issue is XP.
