Really cool make-up trick I just learned :-)

A part of my personality that I don't think has shown very much at MGs (much like the rest of me lately :-o) is my passion for make-up. I spend way too much on it, and own far too much of it, and I don't regret a single cent, brush, or lip gloss. When I get bored on weekends or late at night I search the interwebs for tutorials, deals and bargains, and curse my hyper-sensitive skin that makes it impossible for me to impulse-buy everything I see that I want to try on. While fawning over eyeshadow reviews on YouTube that last night, I came across a real gem.

I have thorough-bred Scandinavian DNA, which means that even when I'm well rested there are dark blue circles under my eyes. And now, thanks to this video, I know finally how to hide them. Not just make them less obvious, but fully hidden. I tried the method out today, and it worked beautifully.

Ladies of MGs, go forth and purchase orange lipstick! You can thank me later. :)

I have dark eyelids, will it work on that as well? (I look like I have dark eye shadow on:-o) When I put eye shadow on I have to apply several coats, then it just feels heavy. That's why I don't where eye make up but on holidays. I like waring make up that looks natural.
I will try this with the lipstick though as soon as I go to town. Thanks for that info Mimsy.

I love makeup too. I'll go into the drug store looking for shampoo and come out with 3 different color palettes of eye shadow (as I just did 4 days ago :-o).

Luckily I don't have dark circles, but if you want to hide a red blemish...use a green tinted foundation for it and then put your regular foundation on on top of it. :)

That's the funny thing, I have red "blotches" nearly everywhere that I hide with green concealer, but for some reason it never occurred to me to try orange on the dark circles. :)

In other news, I washed all my brushes last night before going to bed, and the bigger ones are still not dry! The foundation brush and big powder brush especially are still moist in the center. My options now are a) use the puny useless little applicators that came with the product, or b) break out the hairdryer.

Poor brushes, I hope the dryer isn't too harsh on them...

When I wash my foundation brush, I don't worry about it drying. I figure the foundation is moist anyway. I've never washed any of my other brushes though. Is that bad?

Here's a question. I just bought non powder eyeshadow (matte maybe??) and it's ruining my powder eyeshadow brushes. What do you use to apply it besides the dumb things that come with it???

To all of you who though bigtrucks was a he. Shame on you all! Don't you know anything???

heh...jk. I thought she was a he too just by the nic until she talked about her husband in another thread. Then I though for about 2 seconds she might be gay.:-o Then she mentioned kids/or grandkids. LOL

    Sorry bt. :(

The orange lipstick and concealer trick also works for covering up bruises for people who bruise easily. A friend of mine is on Warfarin, and bruises at the slightest knock or pressure, sometimes spontaneously, (she has an artificial heart valve, so needs it, sadly). Uses that trick to avoid looking like she's just done 15 rounds with Mike Tyson.

You may "never" get a girlfriend if you tell her to look like shit, doesn't matter whether she looks bad or not. You want to tell her that she looks better naturally . Man I can see you're gonna end up a lonely bachelor you keep talking like thathttp://www.pic4ever.com/images/127fs1866968.gif

roflmao That's funny! You might want to try something like "you're so naturally beautiful you don't need any makeup", most men use that line when they're in a hurry and don't want to wait for us to put some on ;)

Back to make-up tips, hemorrhoid cream works wonders for blemishes, just put on when you start to get one and all gone. Don't have dark circles but remember something about some color of eye shadow that will cover blemishes well.

BT, sorry about missing this earlier. It was early morning, pre-coffe, and I was very frazzled about the brushes not being dry enough to be usable.

To answer, I have very thin skin around my eyes, so my upper eyelids look very red thanks to all the capillaries shining though. I use the green concealer trick on them (the mint one I linked to earlier) and after putting on my regular concealer above it and applying my foundation it looks great, and you can't tell there's any red at all. I'm sure the orange trick will work on upper eyelids as well, as long as you don't put on too thick a layer.

My brushes ended up having to be dried with a hairdryer just to become usable, and it still didn't work that well. Imagine trying to apply a mineral foundation with a moist brush...! It was an aesthetic disaster, and to make matters worse, when I came home from work just a while ago, the kabuki brush, the buffer brush, and the large powder brush are still not dry! :mad Now I remember why I don't wash them very often... I am currently googling for replacement brushes. There will be new brushes.

    1. My foundation isn't wet, I use a mineral foundation so it's a very fine powder. Thanks to having super-sensitive-breaks-out-in-eczema-for-nothing skin :banghead I can't skip between different foundations that much, so I'm sticking to the one and only one I have ever found that actually works. As an extra bonus, it helps my eczema heal when it does break out, which is nice.

    2. Yes, its bad, especially if their non-synthetic. Never washing your hair will eventually destroy it, and that goes for brushes too. Also, can you imagine all the yummy stuff that grows inside that nice, warm, humid brush... tasty! :eek Also, clean brushes to work better. Assuming they ever dry, that is... :banghead. There will be new brushes.

Non-powder = pressed, baked, or liquid? :confused

I apply any and all of my eyeshadows with soft brushes of various size. Wider for the base (and for blending if needed), medium for the highlights, and the tiny one for adding darker at the outer corners of my eye. Then after I'm done I take a soft Kleenex or something and wipe the brush back and forth on until all color is gone from it. I do not use liquid or pencil ones though, only powder, pressed and baked ones.

:( Guess I'll be washing all my brushes. Jeez, I have a lot of them.

Pressed, I think. I don't know. I'd have to look. All I know is it's not powdery when I put it on, kinda creamy-ish. I really like it, but I think I'll have to either get disposable applicators, or buy other brushes for it.

Linky? It sounds really cool, I want one!

Don't waste money/time on disposable crap, they are usually pretty horrible quality anyway. Maybe a stiffer firmer brush, with thicker bristles?

Hey, Kes, about hypoallergenic makeup... do you have Phycisian's Formula or Almay over where you live? I use Bare Minerals on my rash-prone skin, but I don't know if you're willing to suffer the costs of importing from the US...

Thankyou very much Mimsy, appreciate that. I shall look into these links. I have skin that drives me nuts quite frankly. And perhaps the old panstik I have used for years and years I am suddenly allergic to? Who knows.

and the black circles under my eyes are so bad tonight that I thought i hadnt correctly removed eyeliner...but no...no such luck lol

That's happened to me. Lotion I used to be able to use just fine suddenly triggers an eczema outbreak. Very annoying.

If you can't find those brands, you might be able to find something similar. I've found (and confirmed with my dermatologist) that organic is better than non-organic, and products with short ingredients lists are much better than the ones with really long ones.

Well I have used that panstik stuff for almost 15 years with no problem, now my face flares out in rashes, skin will peel and flake... I do wonder if it could perhaps be eczema as I suffered from that when I was younger too. I have ben putting off going to the doctors for 2 years now because I think they'll think I'm just vain or something and kick me off to superdrug to purchase some of the afore mentioned crap you spoke of with ingredient lists as long as yer damn leg. Organic I must remember that..and how to pronounce it correctly in the chemists ...LOL

  45. Mimsy

When my eczema flared up in my face The Guy made me go see a doctor, since it made me super-depressed to have large red blotches of scaly itchy skin on my face. The doctor referred me too a specialist and he prescribed a magic steroid cream that made the scaly blotches go away. :)

That doctor was really nice too. He looked at my face and hands and arms (I had the eczema there too) and said, "well, we can run a ton of tests, we can figure out what is causing this, but I'm not going to. This is making you miserable, so we'll get the rash off your face right now, and run the tests later." And then I got a cortison shot that sped up the healing, and free samples of cream to tidy me over until I could fill the prescriptions.

    I like my dermatologist :)

Oooh! I must get one of those to play with! But if it's cream I can certainly see it being hard on brushes. Fingertips? Q-tip?

I coat my eyes with 3 layers of eyeshadow, I start with light brown Rimmel, then on the top of that goes Maybelline in a darker shade of brown, then I really go for it and apply the gothic dark Natural Collection :-D

But the brushes, yea.. they get messed up pretty quickly :(

It goes cream to powder, so maybe it goes the same on the brushes. I'll just try it with some inexpensive ones.

haha...had to do this... (kinda like show me your desktop) here is my show you my makeup drawer. I have way too much and just threw a bunch of old ones out. LOL
