    Good evening,
I am running XP Home SP3.
I recently replaced my keyboard and this new one does not have a sleep button. The shutdown window has only three buttons including hibernate, but no sleep button. I've found on the Microsoft website the instructions for creating a new sleep button but haven't been able to get that to work. So, I have two ideas...
    1) is there a script out there that will install the sleep button in the turn off computer window, or
    2) can I set up one of the 5 "My Favorites" keys to function as a sleep key? Seems like it might work if I attached the correct .exe or .dll file to it, but I don't know which one it is.

You may be right. I mispoke slightly in my first comment. The third button currently available is "Stand By". Neither sleep nor hibernate are available.
but I still have the same issue of getting that 4th button whatever it reads.

No, that isn't right. Sleep retains the current RAM state, enabling a rapid return to normal mode. Hibernation stores the current RAM and paging state in the file hiberfil.sys at the root of the drive and turns the computer off.

Hold down Shift and Standby will switch to Hibernate.
