Hey, I am trying to see what the most expensive personal computer someone could build piece by piece is for a school side project. I have to include everything from the mouse to the OS. I can use any hardware, software, or external devices. The only thing is that it all has to be compatible and i have to save every site that i get a piece from. Has anyone got any ideas to make this the most expensive PC ever.

When you get your project done, tell us what you've discovered.

I don't think you're gonna get anyone here to do your homework for you my friend. Just troll all the online buying sites and look for the high end extreme parts. Yeeesh, I was pricing out a high end sever the other day and just the mother board alone was over $6000.00!

I went on alien ware the other day just because i was bored and built one that was around $16,000usd before tax and shipping just to see how high you could get it but that was with ever add on you could even remotely need (software , hardware and apparel) and the best of EVERY THING and overclocked with water cooling and protection warranty of 2 or 3 years...who in their right mind would ever buy it i don't know

Hi and Welcome to the forum

You may find many tech forums "may" not be too forthcoming in assisting doing your project for you and finding hardware that gels well and are top spec components can at times take a while to research fully, while you sit back waiting suggestions.

But what i would suggest is to write down every component that makes up a PC, then include external devices, and then software to build up a full picture of what you need to add, then search on each one.

Not going to do all the work for you but hardware wise, a nudge is look into high end workstation or server boards, Xeon, SSD, Tesla, high end ram and as much as x64 OS to and mobo will take, large format printers and for software some apps to bump up price and one springs to mind is priced at $3495 then add expensive monitor and keyboard and mouse, one of my keyboard/mouse combos is circa $300 (not most expensive around either) so I could likely get a personal PC to off top of head to around $35-40K+

But do let us know what you ended up with, but in honesty the work needs to be your own.

4 of these for screens should bump up the price a little. just a hint, look for server boards with 4 processor sockets, max it out with the 4 most expensive processors you can find, look for the most expensive RAM and max that out too, and go crazy with the harddrives (most full-size cases allow you to fit around 10 hard drives in there, look for the 10,000/15,000 RPM HDDs, those are usually more expensive than the larger slower drives.)

imagine the power requirements this thing would take...it reminds me of national lampoons christmas vacation when the dad plugs in the lights for the house roflmao

Thanks everyone. Thats what i was looking for. I don't know a lot about the really expensive computer stuff because I just don't have the money for any of it. I wasn't asking for anyone to do my homework just to clarify. Just wanted some tips on jacking up the price. I have it at almost 1mil right now. trying to get to 2 mil. if you are wondering how i got that high, just Google "most expensive computer parts"

With the hard drives, also try looking at SSDs.

One million :eek Can't you link us to the parts you have chosen?I don't know your level of computer experience so when your on whatever webpage just copy the address in the address bar and paste it in your next reply.

I was thinking 20 £10,000 solid state harddrives in raid 0

I wouldn't bother with monitors go with a $200,000 projector.

I suggest you take the list Halo suggested you create, then hit up Newegg, find the product category, and sort on Highest Price. If the prices have to be suggested retail, you will then have to go to each maker's site and look it up.

I agree to go with the "workstation" theme as they can cost much more than any game machine.

I think for this to be a valid school project, going for the most outrageous price is not good enough. The computer should be practical when done. Using four 70" TVs is not practical. But I like the idea of using four monitors - perhaps four 24" HP Professional Displays. Of course then you need some horsepower for graphics cards - so a couple of $3000 PNYs will do - if fed ample power from a good PSU (or 2) of course.

It could be a fun project - but a more challenging project would be to build the best performing computer within a specified budget - because most expensive does not mean best.

While you can throw many parts at a PC, the trick is will it work, no good adding large amounts of ram or HDD/SSDs if their are not ports available on the motherboard, likewise the grahpic cards, some motherboards allow 3 or more but dependng on the gfx card used the space between the cards may only allow less of them.

Side thought is and just came to me today is you could theoretically build one that if it didnt need to be in one case, but a system that acted together, is a cluster/grid ;)

All good points Halo. Just grabbing the most expensive things you can find doesn't necessarily mean that they will all work together. When you get way up on the high end of computers, configuration troubles are insane when compared to slapping together a $600 dollar rig.......

Also, and I don't know if I am saying this right, but I think there are two kinds of expensive. The first is the cost of something, say the $500,000 computer with platinum and diamonds on the case, blah blah.. The second is actually having paid for the item. Yeah, you can charge$20,000 for a display, but it's not worth anything if you never actually sell one.

I could sell you my computer for $150 Billion, and first round draft picks, but it wouldn't be the most expensive computer until someone actually bought it, in my opinion.

PC stands for Personal Computer. You decide :p

Been using Mac's for a few years now, definitely prefer them!

This is what i have found that really jacked up the price. I have also found just the case without the internals too.

    http://most-expensive.net/desktop-computer

I think that i am going to go with a monitor and a projector. I can do both as long as i have a different purpose for each like office work/presentations.

I will come back and post a complete list of the whole thing when i am done with it.
