Sun is actually good for the skin. Just do not want to get burned. Many Dermatologists will tell you that as well just there not supposed to say it because of the risks of skin cancer :p

Great that you found Cetaphil. I use it too and it's extremely gentle. Additionally, to exfoliate I add a bit of baking soda to the Cetaphil, mix it and that works great. Does a great job and is much cheaper than purchasing an exfoliator. :)

    So??? How was it?:-D

    A few tips on eyebrows:

So, I was playing golf today and was riding in a cart with a really nice woman (and attractive) who totally over plucked. Her eyebrows were way too short.

Here is a diagram to use as a guide. Do not over pluck either end. It makes things look all out of skew.

Yes :-D why put yourself thru the agony of plucking which I've sat and watched some women do for almost an hour ...faffing about, enduring the discomfort, I can give a sidewards swipe with my razor and be done with it, thinned em out and shaped em in one fell swoop

And unless it was said tounge-in-cheek, it was pretty insulting.

You're entitled to whatever narrow-minded prejudice you want, but don't assume that all the women in the world are the same as whatever kind you surround yourself with. Not everyone is as insecure about their appearance, or as desperate to appear attractive, as they must be to convince you that there is no other reason to wear makeup.

Think what you want, rephrase it before you type it, and above all, don't judge me on the twisted standards you live by. Thank you.

  37. hrlow2

Well excuse me all to Hell for thinking that all women are good looking even without the extra add-on options.

Pink. Very pink. LOL (On my skin it came out paler than it is paler than in the picture, but the shimmer looks about right. Note that I did have white eyeshadow underneath it.)

In an effort to try and pull off the pink without it completely clashing with my personality, not to mention every other part of me, I used pearly white to cover the whole lid, up to the eyebrow, and the put the coral pink over the entire lower part of the upper eyelid. Then I put dark silver in the outer corner of my eye, and along the crease, and finished with thin coal black eyeliner and went heavy on the mascara. Applied rich purple lipgloss, put on dark purple top and jeans, and then headed in to work.

Back home, over ten hours later, the coral eyeshadow is as pink and as smooth and shimmery as it was this morning and it hasn't creased at all! It has stayed on, without fading or creasing, far better than my disgustingly expensive Clinique eyeshadows ever do! Guess what brand I won't bother to buy again...

So in conclusion, Coastal Scents powder eyeshadows are highly recommended. :)

Kes, so glad you found a UK site for Cetaphil! The cleanser is my favorite, it is surprisingly effective but very mild, and I have found that the lotion also works great on my face, and seems to actually prevent both eczema and acne. I especially like that part. :)

That's not what was insulting. When I responded that I'm not wearing makeup because I believe I'm ugly without it, implying that it might just be because I think it's a fun hobby, you told me to "feed that c--p to someone else". That is insulting. If you want to claim to know what I think and feel, you should at least get to know me first.

So it's a loose powder? hmmm..I only have loose for accent eyeshadows. Wonder how it compares to the pressed stuff you linked to before.

Well, if you want to see what it looks like the girl in the video tutorials, xsparkage, uses their eyeshadows. You can go through her channel and look at what the colors look like if you're curious. I've seen and read some very favorable reviews about their eyeshadows being very high in pigmentation, so they should all have lots and lots of rich color.

(Okay, my Firefox spellchecker needs to learn that "eyeshadows" is a real word. This is ridiculous.)

Oh, I have never tried that! Does the harshness depend on the amount of baking soda? Does it sting a lot? Inquiring eczema faces want to know... :)

You're storming off in a huff because I think you're narrow-minded? Wow... if I'd known you were insecure as well I'd probably have phrased my posts a little nicer. Probably. Maybe.

Seriously. You're leaving over this? How old are you, twelve?

  45. oma

    oma MajorGeek

No, it doesn't sting. Of course, you've got to try first adding just a tiny bit of baking soda to see how your face reacts. I usually use about 8-10 squirts of Cetaphil with abt. 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and mix it well in my hands before using it. Use lots of water to wash it off.

Actually I read that tip in Paula Begouns' book: Don't go to the cosmetic department without me (without reading this book) - or something like that.

Thanks for the extra detail! I'll have to try that out. I'll err on the side of caution and go very easy on the baking soda to begin with... but it's an excellent idea. I like it! :)

I think I mentioned I ordered the Coastal Scents brushes. Here is a short review of them:

    First impressions:

    Sable face brushes:
Very soft. Almost a bit creepy. Too much softness makes them hard to navigate on my face, but there's obvious potential here. The blush brush is much better than my angled blush brush for applying my hard-pressed blush, it looks much smoother and as a result more natural, so this is a new favorite. The bigger face brush will take some practice to figure out how to use, but I sense great potential in it. Great potential.

    Sable eyeshadow brushes:
Oh....! Me like. They pick up a ton of color, and then they give it all away again when they touch my skin. These are clear and obvious winners, I love them. They are now in the brush-place of honor in my makeup drawer.

    Badger buffer brush:
I am torn on this one. I wanted so much to use it to apply my mineral foundation, but it's not stiff and dense enough to give me the coverage I need. I ended up switching back to my Sephora Kabuki brush (a good but far from great brush). I really wanted to like the badger brush though, so I decided to try applying my bronzer with it, and wow... this has got to be the best lightly-buff-bronzer brush I have ever seen. It's amazing for that, and for lightly buffing on a sheer layer of foundation to set everything in the end, so it will get lots of use. I am just sad that I don't have a great foundation brush. :(

    Concealer brush:
It soaks up color, but it's so firm and dense that it gives phenomenal control over applying my mineral concealers. When applying green and orange concealers control is everything, so I really like this one as well.

Overall average impression of all brushes: Money well spent! I wish I had known about them before I wasted my money on Sephora and Bare Minerals brushes.

I probably did, it's the only foundation I can use. It is super-gentle, easy to handle once you get the hang of it--there is a bit of a learning curve though, but just give it time. Most importantly, it requires high quality brushes, or it will frustrate you to insanity.

In addition to the tips you posted, I'd suggest a pencil for the first layer of eyeliner, and then accentuate with a thin liquid line of the same color close to the eyelashes. Then use the eye pencil for the lower eyelid if you want to line it, and then put the white eyeliner on the lower waterline to open up the eye and make it look its normal size again.

    Goth and proud. ;)
