I have XP and I am adding a user to use my computer
however, I don't want them to be able to see/find the files on my administrative account.
I have them as a "limited" user.

however if I go to the search function when I am on their limited account I can still access my word files/music/videos from my administrative/password protected account
how do I stop this? I want them to only be able to use their files..

that link to those directions, only works for XP-pro

If you turn off Simple File Sharing, you have more control over the permissions to individual users. However, you must have advanced knowledge of NTFS and share permissions to help keep your folders and files more secure. If you turn off Simple File Sharing, the Shared Documents feature is not turned off.

To turn Simple File Sharing on or off in Windows XP Professional, follow these steps:

    1. Double-click My Computer on the desktop.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab, and then select the Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended) check box to turn on Simple File Sharing. (Clear this check box to turn off this feature.)

To view a video about how to turn Simple File Sharing on or off, click the Play button (

DomLuc is correct. The easiest way for it to be done is to set your folders to private. Therefore only you have access to them.

I didn't think DOmLuc was mistaken as much as I figured the error was on my end. I haven't been given wrong advice related to my computer on MG as of yet.
I simply can't follow the directions as I don't have the tab shown in this video at the end where it clicks
    "USE SIMPLE FILE SHARING"(recommended(

as it does in the directions-->

and because of that, I don't know what to do!

If you open the Properties of a folder you want to make private you should get this -

    You can encrypt your files.

Not in XP Home you can't, which is what the OP has. Making the folders private is all that is required.

thanks, sucks that I have to do this and can't just have a universal "privateization"
