Hi---I use Firefox pretty much exclusively---if I download Windows 7 Release Candidate for kicks---will it affect Firefox at all---or make some of my security items unusable?---I am not too technically minded---just like to play around but do not want to screw up my whole system---have read system requirements and seems I have what I need---just curious---thanks---P.S.---If I use Firefox do I even need to care about IE???

Uhm, are you intending to upgrade your Vista to W7?, then you won't be able to go back, not that I know! I would rather create a separate partition, say a minimum of 30GB and install W7 there so that you don't affect anything else that you have on your system.

FF works perfectly fine in W7 as do most if not all Vista security apps too, and I don't use IE8, not yet anyways. Since you're not too much of a techie then I would go this way. Have fun!

Microsoft don't recommend running Windows 7 Release Candidate on your main machine, at this stage. So make sure, of you do, that you have a FULL Backup of your previous installation to fall back on if need be.

I run XP, and at this point unless I just want to play with 7, I will have to PAY to get the final version.
My point is, I may put it on a spare machine and goof off with it, but since I wont be paying for it after its out, whats the point?

    Cheap, cheap, cheap,:p

Make sure you wait for at least 6 months after the system has been released to make sure all the critical post-release bugs have been fixed. Knowing Microsoft, something that works perfectly in the RC will break in a big way in the RTM version.

On second thoughts, it might just be better to wait for SP1.

There is no reason not to do as Augie suggested and partition you hard drive (if you have space) then load RC to that, when you boot your PC you will be given the options to load XP or 7RC so you can play with 7 without affecting your XP installation.

I have 3 partitions on mine with Vista/windows 7 and Ubuntu and they all work perfectly.
