Having read previous topics with no sign of a solution, I was hoping you ladies and gents could help me. My PC was recently attacked by a virus which meant I had to enter safe mode and restore factory conditions (I didnt know what else to do, it wouldnt turn on in normal mode).

This fortuitously worked for me, but I am left with a clicking, crackling sound every time I use my mouse. Scrolling on web browsers, loading web pages, and clicking with the mouse all cause these irritating noises.

It can be particularly bad when loading a game (the effect seems to vary, but the noise is persistent) from a low hum to a high pitched shrieking noise.

Anyway, I hope you guys can help me out also, here are my list of Sound, video and game controllers:

    Audio Codecs
    Legacy Audio Drivers
    Legacy Video Capture Devices
    Media Control Devices
    Sigmatel High Definition Audio CODEC
    Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit
    Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device
    Video Codecs

Only Sigmatel, Sound Blaster and Unimodem can be disabled and so far, doing so has not been helping.

I hope you can help, if you need any further information, I will provide it asap.

    Thanks

Also what may be of note, every time I shut my pc down, the speakers emit a very loud thud. This didnt happen before and I am unsure if it is related, just thought I'd mention it.

    Hello,
    Is your mouse wireless?

Is the receiver (or mouse, if not wireless) connected via USB or PS/2?

What sound card do you have?

What sound card do you have?

Is it an add on or did it come with the computer?

I honestly dont know, how do I check?

It is the standard Sound Card though, I haven't installed a new one

Okay, what is the computer make and model?
We can find out the sound card that way.

Okay, you have a Sigmatel STAC9220 audio chip.

All I can conclude from my limited experience is that the USB signal must somehow be being passed on to the audio chip.

I will leave this topic in the hands of someone more capable than I.
