Printing in Ubuntu is too "bold"

I have bought an HP photosmart c7280 all-in-one. When I hooked it up to my Ubuntu machine, it automatically set up the printer. However, when I try to print in Openoffice.org, everything is too "thick". The pictures have too much black and the font looks like it is all bold. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

 

Are you using the HPLIP drivers? The package is called hplip-gui

There are settings galore to set the manner in which the printer prints. I prefer Greyscale most of the time to speed up printing and also use far less ink...

Don't know if you are still following this thread. I am in Air Force training, so it is difficult for me to deal with Linux issues...time wise. I will try what you said and get back with you.

 

I look through the Linux Section at least once per day.

The Linux Tools rival what is available in Windows for functions.

 

It has been a while since I have been able to work on this problem, but I have hit the tail end of officer training school, and I have some time to mess with it.

I installed the HPLIP drivers that were mentioned above and verified they are installed using the instructions from HP's site. I also used the hp-setup command to install the printer. However, the printer still prints texts too thick (it looks like everything is bold). Is there a setting I can change to correct this?
