My shitty weekend

Last week, Saturday, I totaled my car. On Sunday that weekend, my mom's father passed away. I really did not want anything to happen to me this weekend, but these things come in threes... I'm not normally superstitious, but now I'm nervous about whatever else might hit me to make the trinity complete. :(

I'm sorry, that is a shitty weekend.

Oh, I'm so glad no one was hurt in the accident and sad to hear about your grand dad.:(

Of course the trinity will complete, given enough time. It's a fact of life.:)

That's what my husband keeps telling me... it could have been a lot worse. The totaled car is my '94 Pathfinder so repairs would cost way more than what the car is worth. We have good insurance, so we will end up with a new car in the end. Still... its been a bad, bad week.

What's just happened to you is enough bad for a year, never mind two days. My sympathies on the passing of your grandad. I was devastated when my grandad died, he was a great influence on my life.
And as for your car getting wrapped, well.....been there.
But bad things don't happen in threes. That's superstitious claptrap.
Hope you have a safer and happier weekend than last.

So sorry to hear about your Grandfather passing away, Mimsy :(. A bit of a cliché, I know, but all I can say is time does at least blunt the loss), think of the good memories.

Not good about the car, either, but at least it's covered by insurance. You'll 'probably have a bit of shock for a while, but that too, will pass. Just glad you're okay and here to tell us about it.

Dunno about the trilogy of bad luck thing, but I have experienced the apparently never ending bad luck trait. But it eventually passes as well.

Take care, and best wishes, Mimsy.:)

Oh Mimsy, so sorry about your Grandpa's passing. :(

Glad you weren't hurt in the accident. At least you have insurance and that car can/will be replaced.

Nah, having 2 very sad things happening doesn't mean that there's going to be a third one? Life is a b*tch sometimes, but there's nothing we can do about it, only take it all in stride and trying to remain positive. Life is a learning session.

Hey Mims....sorry to hear about you're grandfather. :(

As far as the car, I know how you feel. We were just talking about this the other day....the whole 'at least no one was hurt' thing. Although it's completely true, it doesn't make you feel any better to think about the fact that everyone is ok when you're looking at the damage.

on a side note...I'm just shocked that shitty isn't censored. ::files away in my mind for future reference:: LOL

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. My grandfather was very old and he was sick, so it was sort of expected... and with him living back with the rest of the family across the world, I said my farewell the last time we visited. He was a good grandfather. Wherever he is, I hope they serve scotch and prime rib there. :)

My car was... nasty to look at. Yes, it could have been worse, and thankfully we have good insurance so we will get a check as soon as all the paperwork is done. We're debating what to replace the car with now.

It must be difficult for you not to be overseas with your family right now to grieve together, even though you said your farewell already to your grandfather the last time you visited.

On the day of my mother's funeral overseas in 1982 I looked at some family pictures and felt a bit better by doing so.

From I have heard this is a real good time to get a car. Some dealerships are practically giving them away.

A little bit of good news: The insurance company has offered a check for the full blue-book value of the Pathfinder, minus our deductible. Given the current desperation from various car dealerships around here, that means the replacement car will at least be a good one.

I found a florist company that let me place an order online and deliver the flowers to my mom's house, together with a personalized message. I feel much better now that I could send her something. :)

    a florist in Sweden?

As I understand it, they're a global network. They let you place an order online, and then find Swedish florists that are in their network, and have them deliver the order. Google for "interflora" and the name of the country you want the flowers delivered to. :)

Glad you were not hurt in the accident Mimsy, cars can be replaced... but you can't be. Very sorry to her about your Grandpa, good that you got a chance to see him before he passed, they've to have prime rib and scotch in heaven :) I believe if you lead a good life you will find peace and love in the after life.

I drove this car into a tree when I was 17, I think it then rolled 7 times, 3 in the air. I don't know how I walked away from it without more than bumps and scratches, I went to the junk yard to take pictures of it, and the people there told me someone died in it.

The thing I hate about accidents is the slow motion effect they seem to have. I swear I saw every crack run across the windshield. It's nice to hear people unharmed from accidents. Almost deserve a congratulations. I think all of my cars have ended up in the junk yard for one reason or another (mostly accidents LOL). Hang in there, even 3 bad things won't stop thousands of good to come.

How 'lucky' was it that most of the damage was on the right hand side? If that had been a right hand drive, you wouldn't have been so fortunate.

My cousin, and next door neighbor was having some kind of get together at his house that day, and came up to my car and asked if I could get him out of there. I said I was in a hurry, and didn't want to give him a ride. I'd have killed him less than 5 minutes later.

I don't mean to hi-jack the thread or anything, was just saying that things work themselves out, and the big events of today are the memories you file away tomorrow, you know? If I didn't have these pictures, I wouldn't remember what the car looked like probably.

Wow Paxton, that's almost exactly what the front of my car looked like. The poor Pathfinder became nearly a foot shorter :(

The third thing has hit :(

Massive eczema outbreak on my face, most noticeably around my eyes and mouth. Until it heals all make-up is a major no-no, and to make matters worse, my prescription creams are having absolutely zero effect. The Guy is concerned that I have an allergy that we until now were unaware of, and talked me into taking one of his allergy pills. He's now trying to talk me into calling my dermatologist for an urgent appointment. I have told him I'll give the creams until Tuesday and if there's still no visible effect from the creams, I will get an appointment.

    Eczema is teh suxx0rs.

Mimsy I know EXACTLY how you feel... I really do. :grouphug Maybe you should get an emergency appointment. Makeup is a definate no-no, and I hate it when my face flares up and I can't wear any. Not because I am vain or whatever, but because it gives me confidence. I know with me it's different, at least the doctor didn't say I had eczema on my face, but I always did used to suffer from it as a child. Really hope you get it sorted because I DO know how you feel.

Now that you feel that the "third" thing has hit then it is time for you to have a positive outlook!! The outbreak was probably brought on by stress....so try to relax and GET YOUR BUM TO THE DOC!!!!! It will make you feel better.....hang in there!!

  29. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

Oh, there's nothing probable about that, it was definitely stress. It's happened before, but it usually isn't this bad. It has improved since this morning though, at least The Guy swears it has. Of course it still looks horrible, but slightly less, and thankfully the rash no longer burns.

    I will consider a doctor's appointment... maybe. (I hate going there! :()

    For Mimsy
My grandson has eczema, I remembered an old remedy my mother used. You put a large cup of porridge oats in a ladies nylon stocking, then as you run a bath suspend the stocking under the hot tap (faucet) Apparently the hot water releases curative enzymes. it worked for my lovely grandson, give it a go!

  33. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

I already take oatmeal baths a couple of times a week, partly because it helps my skin and partly because I like the smell, but thanks anyway. I appreciate the thought. :)

I tie off the stocking and leave the oatmeal in the bath water while I soak in the warm water, and then I just throw it away afterward. There is something in the oatmeal that really helps the skin remoisturize and heal, and it's relaxing in lots of other ways as well. It's just a nice soothing thing to do. :)

I might go take a bath now.
