    Every time I try to use usb port my computer crashes. Unable to download pictures from my digital camera, can't use web camera or other usb devices. Running Windows XP Home, with comodo firewall, spyware blaster, spybot search and destroy, and anivir.

    Can't use ctrl alt delete, have to reboot to get the computer running again.

    Just got a new laptop for Mother's day and wanted to download stuff to add to my laptop. Any help would be appreciated.

    I found the following on line but afraid to give this a try without getting your input from here first.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    go to start, and right click on my computer and click properties
    go to hardware and click device manager
    expand the universal serial bus controller category
    click disable for all of the objects in that category
    then click enable for all of them
    this will reset them to their original settings.
    Hello,
    Is the laptop new? If so, contact customer support, as you may have a defective component.
    BTW, Wasn't mother's day back in March? :-D
    Nope, here in the U.S, Mothers' Day was 1 week, 3 days ago.
    Sorry about that, did not make it clear as to which computer I'm having trouble with. Problem is with my desk PC and not the new laptop. Desk PC is about 5 years old now ( Samsung Shuttle X) and I have had no major problems with it, just the normal stuff, like running slow or a virus. These kinds of things I have learned to take care of with the help of this community which is the best on line.
    I think that at sometime something has gotten changed, though I may very well be wrong about that as I am not the sharpest when it comes to computers, but I'm trying to learn. From what I've read I'm still at a loss.
    I was able to use the usb port up until I gave my web camera away. Had not needed to use it after that until I tried a new Logitech camera and the computer would freeze up. After that any usb device I tried to use would cause my computer to freeze instantly upon plugging in.
    So with all this said, I'm still seeking advice. Thank you.
    Please do this:
    Go into Device Manager and take a screenshot of the section near the bottom that shows all your USB devices. Post that image here.
    Really? You have some pretty....interesting date choices over there!
    Anyway, back on topic, my first thought would be that the driver for the logitech camera is interfering with the USB ports. Perhaps uninstalling the camera in device manager would help?
    Before I knew there was a problem with using the USB hub, I thought the camera was defective so uninstalled and returned to store.
    Wasn't till much later when trying to use digital camera USB device and other USB devices that I decided something was wrong with my port or driver, or system??!!
    Checked a little more and USB drivers are up to date.
    Are you completely sure you removed all of the logitech USB webcam drivers?
