These are the logs from SAS, Malware Anti, and Combofix. I have downloaded MG Tools but am not sure if I have it in the right place on my PC. It says to download it to the root folder on the drive that I have windows installed on. It is on the C:\ drive but not in the windows folder.

Where do I find the root folder to place MG Tools into before running it?

    SAS Log
    Malware Anti
    Combofix

Please advice me on where to put the MG Tools program at and I will run that scan and post it ASAP.

Also, this PC has 5 users and I found several programs for P2P that I have uninstalled. Want to blame the kids but I should have been keeping a better eye on things.

    Thanks for the help.

Yo have it in the correct location according to your ComboFix log. Just run MGtools.exe as requested and attach the last log.

Also explain what malware problems you were having? Like why did you run the cleaning procedure?

Also tell us what problems remain after running the cleaning procedure.

Will run it now. I did the cleaning procedure because I have been having multiple problems that started about a month ago. First the PC wouldn't connect to the internet even though there was no connection problem. Then IE7 crashed hard, AVG free wouldn't update, many programs wouldn't run, FF was acting funny like some of the links such as yahoo mail, news etc... were broken.

Bought AVG Int Sec and it wouldn't update so I went round & round with them.
Found out through the PC tools program that I had 2 firewalls running so I got rid of the old Trend Micro firewall.
Then AVG paid was updating out of now where but the firewall in the program had deemed the internet as unsafe4 and wouldn't let me change it to safe so I uninstalled it, activated windows firewall, and started running the PC cleaning procedure here.

    Thanks

You fogot to respond to my second question:

You have a bunch of startup processes and services trapped in MSconfig registry keys but MSconfig itself is not being used to do this. Are you using some other program (like CCleaner) to control startups that is the cause of this? We need to clean this up but I cannot do this without knowing the answer to this. If you are using something to do this, please stop using it it right now. There are services from Symantec, AVG7, Avast, Ad-aware, ipod and more.

Another question! I see a ton of open ports all showing like below
    Code:
    "1364:TCP"= 1364:TCP:Akamai NetSession Interface
    "1997:TCP"= 1997:TCP:Akamai NetSession Interface
    "2998:TCP"= 2998:TCP:Akamai NetSession Interface
    "1094:TCP"= 1094:TCP:Akamai NetSession Interface
    "1291:TCP"= 1291:TCP:Akamai NetSession Interface
    "4732:TCP"= 4732:TCP:Akamai NetSession Interface
    "4900:TCP"= 4900:TCP:Akamai NetSession Interface
    "1060:TCP"= 1060:TCP:Akamai NetSession Interface
    "2617:TCP"= 2617:TCP:Akamai NetSession Interface
That is just a small snapshot. And I also see a driver and NetSvc with the Akamai name like below
Does all this with Akamai mean anything to you?

I strongly advise you to cleanup your Desktop. Remove eveything but links to run programs. Do not download and save programs here and defintely do not use it for long term storage. You need to keep ComboFix.exe here for now as we need it, but we will be removing it when we are finished with your cleanup. A cluttered Desktop is malware's playground and it can also cause performance degradation especially when you start saving large files here like you are doing.

    Uninstall the below software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5
Viewpoint Media Player <-- should have been uninstalled in step 1 of the READ ME

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll (file missing)

    O2 - BHO: NCO 2.0 IE BHO - {602ADB0E-4AFF-4217-8AA1-95DAC4DFA408} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: Symantec Intrusion Prevention - {6D53EC84-6AAE-4787-AEEE-F4628F01010C} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {5093EB4C-3E93-40AB-9266-B607BA87BDC8} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {7FEBEFE3-6B19-4349-98D2-FFB09D4B49CA} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now run Ccleaner to clean out only temp files and nothing else!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below log:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hey Chaslang.
So far every thing seems to be running well. All of the problems I was having are gone as far as I can tell.

Am not using anything for controling start up items. My stepson set this PC up when we got it and he had it set to custom start up from the get go. Have it in normal start up mode now. Tell me what I need to do on this.

The Akamai is nothing I know about so it can go.

I assume that by saying clean up the desktop you mean get my pics and such into the my docs and folders and such as well. Games pinned to start menu etc...

When I tried to uninstall the J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5 I got a message that I already had this version on my PC and I need to uninstall it through add remove before trying to re install it. Then when I close out that window it says that a fatal error occurred during installation. Please tell me how to get it off of here.

    Have uninstalled viewpoint.

Thats all I have time for tonight but will get back on this tomorrow night. Please be patient with me on this because I have very little time outside of work during the week but will work on it every night.

    Tjanks for your help

Tried again to uninstall JSE2 runtime 5.0 and got the same error as listed before. Will not remove from add remove programs and can't find an uninstall link in the java file on my hard drives. Please inform me on how to do this. Also tried to remove with Ccleaner with same error message.

This is the MGtool log attached

Will let you know how things are running tomorrow.

    Thanks again.

Okay. It will be in my next fix below.

Simply put, I'm saying if it is not a link (a shortcut) to run a program. Try to keep it off your Desktop unless really necessary but no matter what, don't clutter it up like you have now with dozens of files and folders that are not shortcuts. It is one thing to have a few quick links (shortcuts) to folders that you need to access frequently bit the folders themselves should not be on the Desktop. Just the shortcuts should be.
And don't download programs onto your Desktop. If files or folders belong in My Documents then move them there.

Are you sure you are selecting Uninstall? Try using the below to uninstall it:

    Your Uninstaller! 2008

Now we need to use ComboFix again.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Hey bro. Have successfully uninstalled java with the link you sent me. Could not disable AVG Free 8.5 so I uninstalled it but when I went to run the combofix it says that AVG is still running so I closed it out. Now I cant re install AVG either. Keep getting this error from the install package:
    Local machine: installation failed
    Installation:
Error: Action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key....
    Error 0x80070005

Any way, let me know what to do about running the combofix.

Everything going better here except for the above and ever since I went to normal start up mode I keep getting an error saying:

the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is not available.
Enter an alternate path to the folder containing the install package for 'MyDVD.MSI'

After closing this message out 2 or 3 times I get a DMASceduler.exe Px.dll error.

    Thanks

AVG has been becoming more and more problematic. I would not reinstall it.

Run it in safe boot mode. Then reboot in normal mode before running GetLogs.bat from MGtools.

Probably not related to what we are doing.

    Hey Caslang

Tried to run Combofix in safe mode and got the same warning that AVG was active on my PC and not to run it. As I said before I uninstalled AVG a week ago.

    What do I do.

    Thanks

Try running the AVG Removal tool for your version of Windows. See the below link:

    http://www.avg.com/download-tools

    Then try running ComboFix.

Attach a new log from MGtools no matter what happens.

Have tried the AVG removal tool and when i tried to run combofix I get the same message. Should I run it with this or not? Can't see how AVG could be running seeing how it has been uninstalled and used the removal tool but I got several hits using the search option in the start menu on it. Looks to me like A bunch of junk files but I don't know.

Here is the latest MGtools log

    Thanks

You must put your PC into Normal Startup mode with MSconfig as requested in step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. Do this now before doing anything else and remain in normal startup mode.

See if you can run ComboFix anyway. Also try running it in safe boot mode. Make sure you download the current version of ComboFix.exe to your Desktop before trying again. We don't need a new log from MGtools until you get the procedure with ComboFix to run.

    Chaslang.
This is the latest MGlog. I ran combofix in safe mode and still got the warnings that AVG is still running. As you recall I uninstalled it some time ago.

Anyway let me know whats next. Everything seems to be running OK.

    Thanks

In my previous message I said the below which you still did not do.
You MUST do this now and then attach a new log from MGtools. Do not attach another log until you have put your PC into normal startup mode.

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.
After reboot look for all of the above files we had Avenger attempt to delete. If you still see them, delete them yourself.

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip

    Chaslang

Here are the logs from MGtools and Avenger. I couldn't find where to look for the Akamai driver to delete. Did a search and nothing came up.

I also uninstalled several programs that are not used anymore with the exeption of Microsoft Front Page which doesn't show up anywhere but C:\ProgramFiles\ It said that it is being used by other users but it isn't. The folder has in it a folder called Version 3.0 and in that is an empty bin folder. There seems to be no uninstall link in the folder. It was given to me on a disk but I would like to get rid of it. Your Uninstaller doesn't find it either. Tried to attach it as well but it would not attach.

One last problem that I am having that happens rarely but it happened today is that the PC wouldn't come out of sleep mode. I have to kill the power to get it running again.

Thanks again for all of your help and patience with me on this.

    Ironhead

Tried to attach what? Are you just trying to delete the folder for Front Page? If so, just go to the lowest level folder first and delete all files in it. Then delete the folder. Do this working your way backwards to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Front Page folder and delete it last.

Please post in the Hardware Forum.

Your logs are clean but you can fix the below two lines with analyse.exe similar to last time:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4EFB-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: Yahoo! IE Services Button - {5BAB4B5B-68BC-4B02-94D6-2FC0DE4A7897} - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Common\yiesrvc.dll (file missing)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

  23. ironheadbulldog

    ironheadbulldog Private E-2

Chaslang. I was not able to delete the front page folder as you suggested. I had already tried to dele it as you said to but tried again anyway. Don't guess it's hurting anything. The lowest level of the folder is a bin folder that is empty.

Thank you again for your help and patience in cleaning my PC.:dancer

    You're welcome.

You could try deleting it in safe boot mode or you could try using Avenger like in my previous fix. The script for Avenger would be something like below. I don't know how the folder is named exactly so I'm given you an example.
