I have a Seagate FreeAgent 320GB external harddrive that backs up my C drive every day. if my C drive was infected( which it was) with Spyware/Malware is it possible that the external drive is infected also, and I wouldnt notice it until I needed to restore from the external harddrive?
    what do you think?
should I run the malware removal progams in the external harddrive?

Potentially yes. It depends on the malware and exactly what you backed up.

Yes this could be the case. Again it all depends on what was backed up, what you are restoring and what infections you had.

If you are talking about our malware cleaning procedure, only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes can be set to scan your external drive. ComboFix may delete some items on the external drive if connected while you run ComboFix. MGtools does not look at anything other than the Windows boot drive file system and registry.

However if you thought your system was infected, what makes you think it is clean now? Perhaps you need to running the cleaning procedure just to make sure your system is clean and just make sure the external drive is connected and selected for scans with SAS and MBAM.
