This weekend is our 40th annual Festival of the Arts, (looks like they haven't updated the website yet...idiots) so after I get some errands done today I'll probably be there the rest of the day.

Tomorrow I have to work Yanni all day (which means I can't watch more than bits and pieces of the game, dang it!).

Sunday I'll be back down at Festival to watch a few friends' bands play, then helping put it all away for another year.

Hell yes! Who needs toast when you have liquid goodness? Not me thats for sure.
And i'll tell you somethin else.
A world without beer is a world i dont want any part of.
For it is beer, my friends, that brings friends closer to friends.
And it is BEER, my friends, that made refreshing ones self with liquid that much more enjoyable.

    Can I get an AMEN!

And if your team actually was any good they would at least make it to the NBA Finals without their starting center... like some others can :p

    murderhigh187 Private First Class

KG is a forward, I would love to see you without Gasol! lol, you live and die with him much like we did with KG

besides Ill take Perkins over Bynum, Perkins is so overrated its not funny

  24. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

You'll take the over-rated older guy over the young up-and-comer... yeah, that makes perfect sense... rolleyes

Oh and I love how the fact that your starters being injured is a legitimate excuse for your team this year, but it wasn't for mine when we lost last year. You lost to the Magic this season. Get over it, get better, and come back next year and prove yourselves.

I would mind Celtics fans a lot less if they weren't so whiny. ;)

  25. murderhigh187

    murderhigh187 Private First Class

I would like Laker fans better if they knew their basketball ;)

first KG is a center, then Kendrick Perkins is old and overrated (hes 24, and everyone says hes a bust when he plays better than Bynum, stats dont lie)

whats next? Kobe is better than LeBron HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH :-D

if you had lost Kobe or Gasol then that would be a legit excuse, but Bynum hasnt played good enough to change games like Kobe, Gasol, KG. He will be a good player but isnt yet.

you know we will be right back on top once the defensive player of the year returns ;) Hopefully we can face you guys again!

I really haven't got time for those two girlie games. I watched the British and Irish Lions defeat the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein, on their South African tour.
Even though I was rooting for the Lions, I was shouting for the Cheetahs, the underdogs, at the end.
Lions 20-0 in front after 20 minutes. Ended up 26-24. If the Cheetah's kickers had been on form, they would have won this match.
I know Americans know Rugby Union about as much as they know the dark side of the moon (I reserve judgement on Canucks as their team always hammers the US.)but it's a game second only to (proper) football. And that's official.

  29. murderhigh187

    murderhigh187 Private First Class

Pshhh rugby. It could never match the intensity of American football. Rugby is more technique tackling while NFL safetys and LBs try to take your head off or give you a concussion so bad you wont live past 50. Granted NFL is a anaerobic sport allowing for short high intensity action, while rugby being a aerobic sport, requires more conservation of energy and good stamina.

as for hockey, no game dominated by Canadians can be considered a tough sport. Just playing my northern neighbors! roflmao

I like American Football too, Murder. Vikings for the Superbowl this year. In my dreams, I say that every year.
I've not seen it in a while, years in fact, but got access to it now. Gonna be glued. After I record it as it's on at stupid O'Clock over here.

If Brett Favre un-retires and joins you have a good chance but with T Jack, I dont know. Maybe Rosenfels can take the starting job, other than bone headed easily fixable mistakes, he played well.

but its all about the pats! Brady to Moss! :-D

  32. Sgt. Tibbs

    Sgt. Tibbs Ultra Geek

Actually, there hasn't been one fight in the series, nor were there any in the playoffs (except the one that occurred after the final whistle) that I've seen. And I've watched all but a couple of periods of Red Wings playoffs and quite a bit of the other teams as well.

  33. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

First, I was talking about the Lakers, not the Celtics and last I checked Andrew Bynum is the starting center for that team. I generally trash-talk by bragging about my own team, not by ragging on the other, and so, yes, starting center was a reference to Andrew Bynum. Who plays center. I could and should probably have phrased it a little bit better, but the general gist is: "Starting center" wasn't a reference to Garnett. He couldn't play center if his sanity depended on it... though judging by his side-line behavoir he tried once and that's why he acts the way he does today...

Second, you are the one who said Perkins is over-rated, not me. I'm just agreeing with you. :p

As for Lebron, his team lost. You can say whatever you want about him being the better player, but he's not on the better team, and in a team sport, that's what counts. Let me know when he has won anything other than two Olympic medals and an MVP trophy, and we start talking about him being the greatest to ever play the game. Yes, he has fantastic talent, but if he wants to crown himself the heir to Jordan's throne, shouldn't he at least be required to win as many rings as Jordan did first?

  34. murderhigh187

    murderhigh187 Private First Class

you said if the celtics where so good they would be able to make it without their starting center after I talked about an injury to KG. I can only assume you meant he was a center.

and lol, Kobe is old (30 I think), Lebron is 24! and hes already a better player. Sure hes on a much worse team in which he has to do everyone by himself (and up to the Magic did a great job). I dont care about the cavs or Lebron for that matter, we beat them too then came you! :-D

you cant judge a single player by how good his team is, if you guys never had Shaq, you wouldnt of won those rings. He was MVP of everyone. Once he gets a team as good as Jordan had the rings will come.

P.S. you called Perkins overrated in which I responded too. No one thought he could be the starting center on a championship team, well you were all wrong. :-D

  35. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

And I bet that feels really good right now, after watching the team that knocked you out this year lose two in a row in the Finals.

About Perkins, seriously go back and read your post. I figured out long ago that you mean to type "Bynum" and not Perkins. Just admit that you didn't proof read, call it carelessness or drunkeness, whatever you prefer, but at the very least own up to the mistake so I can laugh at it openly and call it a Freudian slip. LOL If you need help finding it, it's post #23.

  36. murderhigh187

    murderhigh187 Private First Class

Oh damn I said overrated when I meant to say underrated

    DOH!

    :-D

    I guess I lose

I looked back at your post like 5 times and was so confused, then went to my post under it. MajorFails

  37. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

Not at all. Perkins is a given starter on any team that doesn't have Dwight Howard or Yao Ming already playing that position.

FWIW, I thought the Celtics deserved better than they got in this year's playoffs. They're defending champions, if they were going to go out they should have gone out on a better note. Sure, I subscribe to the ancient rivalry of you being the wicked evil slimy guys ;), but in all honesty, last year the Celtics were the better team. You guys may not have deserved the trophy in my biased mind, but you sure as hell earned it. (Yes, that was painful to type :p)

This year, it seems, my Lakers are doing reasonably well. (I refuse to celebrate until we've won two more games in this series. Like Kobe said, "What's there to celebrate? The job's not done yet.")

Still, for all that I despise Rajon Rondo for seemingly doing his best to injure everyone near him this time around (playing tough does not mean drawing blood Rajon, it really doesn't), Garnett, Pierce, and Allen scare the shit out of me whenever they step on a court and, still claiming Garnett is border-line insane, it is impossible to be a fan of basketball and not respect and admire the skill and talent of that triumvirate. Those three are good, and deserve better than being killed by a team that is way too trigger-happy from 3-point and whose starting center has, at most, one and a half low-post move.

We will, of course, try to exploit that weakness of his to the fullest, come Tuesday. ;)

  38. murderhigh187

    murderhigh187 Private First Class

you guys won this year, The last 4 games you have been playing to your full potential.

The problem is consistency but that is also Orlando's problem.

but I cant tell how many times I heard "Perkins is a bust" Although not since we won last year.

People say Garnett is dirty and I agree but I see it as a great thing :-D , Rondo seemed more frustrated than dirty.

hopefully Rondo works on his shooting and he will be scary! right now you dont have cover him on the perimeter

  39. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

The consistency issue is the main reason there has been a lot of vodka drinking during the play-offs so far... :-o

That said, after watching the post-game interviews after tonight's game, I was very surprised to hear the Laker players invited to the interview podium say that they are just getting ready to kick it into a higher gear. Apparently they believe they can play at a higher level than they have so far. I love their confidence in their team, but at the same time... Other than Kobe, everyone else had stellar numbers and performances. (Kobe's were inexcusable for him. Good for anyone else, but really not that good when compared to him.) How much of that was for the cameras I can't say, but I'm cautiously excited to see what, if anything, they have left to pull out.

I do know one thing though: If we're going to win this, I want us to play like we deserve it. Quit it with the dumb turn-overs, Challenge every single 3-point shot, and let Howard do whatever he wants under the basket as long as he doesn't get any rebounds. And Kobe, in case you forgot... facilitate, don't take over. Facilitate. Give. The ball. To Pau. In the low post. Really. He'll kick it back out to you and you can do your fade-away mid-range jumper that you love, and get your points and your and-one free throw. It will all work out. Just give the ball to Pau. (Yes, without Pau Gasol our offense would fall apart... please don't injure him!)

My weekend was liberating. I moved my wife out of the house, and started to start over. It's going to be a long process, but will also allow me to rid myself of everything I need rid of with absolution. If something presently in my life is not serving any particular purpose, I'm getting rid of it. From now on, It's about me.

(sorry to bump an old thread)

  42. Mimsy

That's both an "ouch", and a "good for you" situation. But if you feel it was liberating and you're moving towards a new start that will put you in a better place, go for it.

And congratulations on your liberating weekend! :)
