Plodr and Petaluma help me out.

I tire of Ubuntu as I am somewhat bored.....

If I copy /home/user/Documents including Photos to a CD, can I format and install pclinuxos and restore my files?

I can live without compiz and have FEBE for Firefox so this should be easy-peesy- Right?!?!? ;)

if its just the documents folder then yes - just transfer the documents back when you need them (i always back up my documents - just in case;))

pclos2009 has compiz, you just need to enable it in hardware management

as for firefox, i just copy the bookmarks file across

i have pclos2009 installed on a spare hdd, very niiiiccceee:-D:-D
    (still doesn't beat mandriva though)

I have unfortunately had to leave it behind(pclinux09) as the last big update just would not take.
My distro of choice is Debian (Lenny)-
Any way before it borked I did notice something under admin tools about importing windows files and settings.(seemed to be a new wizard -I did not run it) boot the live cd and check

Do you have any trouble with flash in pcl 09?(I always got choppy or no video from certain sites...hulu,comedy central)
Debian seems to handle it all very easily

I haven't been to hulu or comedy central, sorry petaluma.
If by the big update, do you mean trying to get 2007 up to 2009? I did not go that route. I waited until the 2009.1 ISO was out and downloaded and burned it then tried it live and went for the install.

In a few days, I will try some sites and give a report.

I tried hulu and comedy central and video was perfect.
Watched a downloaded movie it was fine too. Not any
    problems with pclos here.

    Yes.

    And

PCLOS is fantastic! and you won't have to live without the advanced graphical glitz.

I went with the flow with "The Big Update" after about 18 months using a Dual Boot WinXP/ PCLOS setup. All went well till the last update after which PCLOS bit the dust .

    plodr:
My ADSL connection is not fast enough to download such a file, plus the risk of corruption over a long period downloading made me as I said roll on from '07 to '09 .
Doing it as a clean install with the full 2009.1 ISO would be the best way to go for sure.
The guys at PCLOS call it a "rolling release", ever evolving, but after weeks of updates from the Repos actual user time diminished to the point where I started using WinXP to do the bulk of my work.
I really liked PCLOS and will one day go back to it but the lack of real support and amount of newby's offering weak advice in the end made me delete the partitions, restore my Windows MBR / bootloader and say bye, bye . I'm enjoying WinXP, something I thought I'd never say :-o and will install Ubuntu 9.04 which arrived in the mail few days ago. Great support, but maybe not as much a work of Art as PCLOS who if given some extra support and money would really have a place in the GNU/Linux larger community.
Ultimately we use an Operating System as a work horse, a conduit to a further purpose, work ! In my situation I wasn't up for so much downtime updating over those last few months. They did a brilliant job but support, and documentation is too hard to find in the PCLOS community. The nature of Linux initially is to learn, learn, learn and PCLOS '07 was so stable was no problem to take your time, do your work, and tinker when need be . If I had the full 2009.1 ISO I'd install it, but honestly doing the "Big Update" killed my sense of being in control. It was a very telling moment when after 18 months I had my first freeze and had no idea what to do and ended up borking the system and totally was pissed at the waste of time. A concise help Manual to read must be tool no.1, you can't search a Forum for things you don't even know how to phrase . Enough said:)

    Re: pclinuxos 2009 questions

Install what to what? PCLOS distribution to a USB jump drive?

    Absolutely!

But Ubuntu does it better! and easier!

    Cheers!
