My new rig is complete mechanically, but when I boot up to install software from motherboard disk, this is what happens:

    Welcome...yadah,yadah...make disk for DOS menu.

    a) Make ATI XP/XP 64 bit AHCI/RAID Driver Disk
    b) " " 32 bit Vista " " " "
    c) " " 64 bit Vista
    d) FreeDOS command prompt

    I choose c)

Please insert your formatted floppy to A:\

From here I get an error message which leads me to ctrl-alt-Del out to try again with the same results.

Correctly or incorrectly I even tried loading the OS, with no success. I didn't encounter these problems with the first build:confused

do you need to make a driver disk? if your choice is 64bit vista, cant you just have the driver disk handy? vista's installation will let you get drivers from places other than the floppy drive, like xp's did.

    Hello thesmokingun,

I'm not sure I understand; I have the Asus motherboard disk and the Vista disk.

I was under the impression that everything is on those two. Asus requires you install "Express Gate" and that's supposed to be on the disk, also printed on the disk it states, Vista drivers inside.

    I'm open to all suggestions:)

Another thought occurred to me, why am I getting AHCI/RAID disk needs to be made when I'm only using one HDD?

Is that the normal process? Because I have the H.D.D. plugged into ide_led pins (while my HDD is Sata), could that be a factor?

I've got Vista to work, so I'll need to go through Asus to see why the "Express Gate" is acting so funky and will not allow me to download from their disk.

    Hi

Try turning off Express Gate in the BIOS then likely depending on what ASUS board you have check for BIOS update as Express Gate on my P6T V2 has been updated reciently, although I dont use it and have it disabled in BIOS.

Enter BIOS and menu is the Tools one and set Express Gate to disabled.

What ASUS motherboard do you have?

    Hello Halo :wave,

turning it off is a good idea. The only good thing I see with it on was the convenience of one-touch entry into either the OS or BIOS, but I can live without it.

The M4A78 PRO is my second Asus board, my P5Q SE2 works like a charm.

    Thanks man.

I see no reason to boot up with the motherboard CD in the drive. If you need to install drivers, pull the CD until Windows has loaded, then put it in and install the drivers. Just be sure to remove it before rebooting, or change the boot order to HDD first. If installing Vista, you should be able to boot to your Vista disc, and format the HDD and install the OS. Many motherboard discs these days have bootable utilities on 'em so you can create drivers that might be needed for installing Windows (like an F6 SATA driver for XP). In the past, if you didn't have a 2nd PC, creating an F6 driver disk was almost impossible without the bootable driver CD....

I hope you guys don't get tired of me appreciating your advice with so many thanks, but, thanks!

I shut down "express gate" so that the "not installed message" no longer comes up when posting.

I can live with that. ;)
