So today I decided to do a complete reinstall of WinXP on my back-up desktop. I haven't done it in years and I have this week off work, so I can spend all day setting it up the way I want it after the installation.

I get my spindle of blank DVDs and start backing up my pictures, documents, game saves et cetera and make nice progress there... and then I get my XP disc and put it in the drive and reboot. The computer promptly heads straight into my current OS and displays my desktop. It's a nice desktop, sure, but I don't really want to do an OS installation from there. Hrmph. I try again. And again. And again.

15 minutes later it finally occurs to me to boot into setup and change the boot device order so it goes to DVD drive first and HDD second. :-o

I thought I'd share that, since someone here is bound to find this hilarious... I certainly do. LOL

I'm making my computer functional again... it's a perfectly normal thing to do if you're a geek, wouldn't you say? ;)

Well, here's one of my own stories:

One time I tried to boot from a Knoppix CD. No luck, I tried about 3 times.

Then I opened the drive to find out I was attempting to boot from a Tom Petty CD. Full Moon Fever, I think it was.

I was volunteering at Head Start here at the beginning of the now past school year. The main teacher walks up to me and said, I hear you're pretty knowledgeable with computers, why don't you see if you can fix ours, it won't turn on, it's been months.

    The monitor was off.
