dn't take the 9400 unless u gt no plans of running ne newer games.. it wont run nethng made in the last 2 years properly and most certainly not at ur lcd's resolution.. go with the hd4670.. its a gud buy.. i'll look up some gpu reviews and add those in..

i think you need to get a new vendor rolleyes if tht's wt he said..
    1) gfx card memory has nothing to do with mobo memory.. the gfxcard will go into the pcie slot on the mobo(the big blue one in the pic someone posted)
    2) dnt go fr coolermaster.. i can give a LOT of reasons bt i'll go with the simple one and say tht the corsair's 80% efficient and has a lot of headroom fr future as well.. and furthermore corsair almost alwyz underrates their psu's.. tht 450w smps would actually give you at the very least 420w.. while the coolermaster one would be more like 70-75% efficient.. and tht's on the rated wattage.. so basically if ur using a 300w frm coolermaster u got only abt 225w of actualy power.. which isnt all tht much.. plus there's alwyz the bill to think off.. dn't go with anything below the vx450 unless ur really on a tight budget..
    3) u should get many good vendors in cochin.. i'll see if i can get some idea abt it frm a few frnds i have.. otherwise.. u can alwyz buy online and take the stuff to ur vendor to assemble
    4) if u wanna use all 4 gb of ur ram u'll need a 64bit os.. windows xp also has a 64bit version.. and so do vista and windows 7.. i suggest u start downloading the windows 7 rc 64bit now frm microsoft and get the retail version wen it hits the store..

As i pointed out.. don't fr wtever reason buy a ddr2 gfx card.. and dnt be confused abt gfx memory and mobo compatibility.. they're two very diff things.. :)

Hmm, I missed this before, sorry. Ya, a CM 390W will be just fine if you're going to get a 9400 video card as it's only 40 watts. consider this chart, second one down if you decide to get a more powerful video card.

BTW, I find it strange that he recommends a CM 390W as opposed to a Corsair 450W. It's basically the same watts except the Corsair is a better PSU, though i don't get why he says the Corsair is only for servers, heck man I have a Corsair 750TX powering my GTX 260-216 and hopefully 2 of those cards in the near future,

I do know I won't have to go out and buy a new PSU when I do get the second card. I always buy twice the specs needed for ugpgradability. Either way you'll be fine.;)

Looks like I need to rework again.... Imagine... Within 12 hrs from now I was planning to buy the decided config:(

Okay!... Let me list down the costing and see where I can adjust.

    Mobo - 2500
    CPU - 3300
    RAM - 2700
    HDD - 2200
    DVD RW-1100
    Coolermaster - 3650 or Corsair+Cabinet - 5500
    Palit 9400 - 2500 or Palit 4670 - 5000
    Samsung2233 - 10000
    Mouse+keyb - 700

    Total - 28650 or 33000

Let me meditate on this for awhile:zzz

if ur in a fix.. dnt buy the gfx card at all now.. no point getting a 9400gt which you will nt replace fr a while.. it wont give ne performance in games.. if ur planning to only watch HD movies and stuff.. then go for it.. bt then u can cut even more cuz u really wont be needing tht 1gb ram on the card.. a 9400gt in all probability would never use more then 256 mb.. it cant handle the kind of gfx quality tht would fill up more then 256 mb.. u already have an onboard gfx on tht mobo.. use tht till ur sure abt the gfx card and get it then.. :)
EDIT : and to further end ur smps dilemma..
    http://www.techenclave.com/pc-peripherals/corsair-vx450-vs-coolermaster-extreme-power-128757.html
tht link is comparing the vx450 with a coolermaster 600w smps.. and the vx450 still wins.. if even after reading tht u feel like getting a cooler master.. then go ahead

I was exactly thinking the same. Better invest on a class SMPS now and keep upgrading at a later stage!

Shall research a bit more and get back. Thanks a lot Dhruv!

Just as an afterthought, How would a Dell S1909W 19" LCD do?.. Its atleast 40% less compared to Samsung 2233!!!

  7. dhruv

    dhruv Private E-2

would be gud.. bt as i said.. if u gt to keep it below 30k better to skimp on the gfx card.. u can still play most old games on tht onboard.. fr the new ones.. wait a lil and get a gud gfx card.. if u get tht 19 incher you wont be able to change tht.. keep room fr upgrade wen u knw full well u want to do it.. ;)

I guess it'll be dell then. Many reviews suggest that watching a normal 700mb movie rips are better on Dell than on a 2233 as it may get a bit blurred on high resolution.

On the other hand 2233 is a gr8 piece to have for games....

I guess Dell makes sense to me! More movies than games in my present HDD.

    :);):-D

    Hey Gr8 news... I got a quote of 8k for a DELL 2209WFP. A 22 inch monitor from DELL.

The best part was I got the quote directly from the DELL showroom and billing would be direct from company. No retail outlet, no margins... And buying is darn simple!

Whats your opinion folks?... is this monitor from Dell good enuf?

    dhruv Private E-2

    a) as i said before.. you WONT be changing the monitor fr a long while.. so et somethng tht'll last.. invest less in parts you'll be changing..
    b) the Dell's nt Full HD.. the 2233 i Full HD.. as for picture streching.. there might be a lil.. bt then again.. its still a 22incher.. you wont notice it.. plus.. there's alwyz the fact tht you'll get Full HD movies once you got the space to keep them :-D
    c) i'm not so sure abt this so wait fr someone else to confirm.. bt the ultrasharp 22 inchers have been discountinued by Dell.. so either i'm wrong.. or your dealers getting you a stock clearance sale.. in any case.. tht monitor's an old model.. dell has several newer and better ones out now..
in the end its ur desicion.. bt i would still go fr the samsung.. :):cool
as i said before.. skimp on the gfx card.. tht's 5000 saved rite there.. get the rest as below.. use onboard till you can get a decent gfx card.. ;)
    Mobo - 2500
    CPU - 3300
    RAM - 2700
    HDD - 2200
    DVD RW-1100
    Corsair+Cabinet - 5500
    Samsung2233 - 10000
    Mouse+keyb - 700
    Total - 28000

after some time.. add either a HD4670 or HD 4850 if its prices really do fall down next month.. and a xonar sound card if you want.. you'll have a darn decent rig tht'll last you till atleast the next year end.. more if you dont game much.. plus tht monitor will keep fr a lot longer.. its the time of FullHD now.. don't skimp on tht :-D:cool:major

    Hi Dhruv,

After some soul searching, this is how my list looks now

    Gigabyte Mobo - 2500
    E5200 CPu - 3300
    2x2GB RAM - 2700
    Seagate HDD - 2200
    DVD RW - 1100
    Mouse + Kb - 700
    Corsair 450W - 4100
Cabinet - 1800 ( Some useless Primesource cabinet - Need your help)
    Monitor - :confused:confused:confused
    TOTAL - 18400
    Plus 4.04 VAT = 19200.

Chucked the GPU as per your advice. Can u suggest a good cabinet at a lesser cost? in a range of 1000???....

    Hey.. forgot to check.

Does the Corsair VX450 need any special UPS??? Hope I dont have to buy something expensive:(

    Will a streetsmart Microtek do?????

    dhruv Private E-2

anything arnd 600va will do.. i run my tx650 on a frontech 600va ups.. doesnt give much backup.. only 10 mins or so.. bt does its job.. if u can get apc its gud.. if u already own one then don't bother.. :) as for the monitor.. get the samsung.. and there's lots of cabinets availible in the market.. i can't suggest anything frm here though.. just don't buy those small tiny ones frm iball and all.. get a decent sized cabby.. why not zebby?? not getting it with ur vendor??

It looks as though you have got this new PC sorted,It's good to have a site like MGs where you can learn from the mishaps and faults from others.

I have made my fair share of mistakes that have cost me dearly, one such was quite recently when i fried a new (very expensive) mobo through a stupid basic mistake :-o
Look forward to hearing how it performs when you have got it up and running.

    Thanks BILLM!

Many advised me against buying the Corsair VX450. They felt that this SMPS is a overkill for my usage.

My place is prone to lightning an thunderstorms. High voltage is also a key issue. Do u think buying a good SMPS like Corsair will help me on a rainy day??

Or, isnt that the job of the SMPS????...:confused

A lot of our Amercan friends just put an anti surge unit between the power outlet and the PC to protect it from such things.
I am lucky in that we do not have such problems but no doubt somone will jump in with an answer.

well.. u did read tht thread i gave earlier didnt u?? abt the corsair vs the coolermaster?? simple fact is.. buying quality components will save you a lot of grief later.. and for those who suggest its an overkill.. well.. even a basic system these days needs a lot of power.. and for those of us who worry abt electricity bills.. efficiency matters as well.. so sure.. u can get a 300w zebby.. bt
    a) its VERY prone to frying ur system..
    b) u got no room fr upgrades
    c) 300w at 65-70% efficient vs 450w which is underrated at 80% efficient..
for 150w frm the zebby you'll use up 250w easily... for 150w frm the corsair you'll be using 190-200w.. u do the math with the power bill..

if you're investing money do it in quality stuff.. dont waste it by getting stuff tht may or may not perform well wen its required..
sorry if it seems rude bt i'm trying to drive home a point here.. do let us knw wt u got.. :)

EDIT : the smps will nt regulate voltages or help in a thunderstorm.. bt a quality one is less likely to fry itself and the rest of ur system along with it.. :)

As to a UPS with good surge protection, you're going to pay for that. I think you should start a new thread on surge protection as there are many folks here that deal with this all the time.
