My boss asked me to upgrade the office computers so i did. I putted in a new mpotherboard processor and ram... My issue is now windows xp wont boot. its gets the the windows xp screen with the bar at the bottom moving and when it prepares to move to the next screen, the screen turns blue and restarts.

I tried using the repair option on the windows disc and does the same....

    Hello There,

Have you tried looking at the Ram to see if its compatable with the motherboard and you are not putting too much in as sometimes causes this problem. Like myself tried putting 2GB DDR 3200 in but my motherboard only takes 1GB maximum. Is the motherboard all connected up properly nothing missing. Other than that I can't think of anything else other than possibly reformatting the computer.

The other issue being that your hard drive setup in xp did not recognize all the changes you made to the hardware. I would suggest you slave that drive to a different computer and save all the data and files and then do a complete reformat in new install.

First thing should do is to get a look at the error message presented by the BSOD (blue screen of death).

Start tapping F8 after the BIOS beep, and continue tapping until you are presented with the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" window. Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to select "Disable automatic restart on system failure" and hit the Enter key. Highlight your OS, and hit Enter again and your system will attempt to restart normally. When it BSODs, write down the error message. I expect you may see "STOP 0×0000007B".

    Please try again:
Press the "ON" button and start tapping F8 after the BIOS beep, and continue tapping until you are presented with the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" window.

This is how you get into Safe Mode, from this window. You WILL have this option!

"Windows Advanced Options Menu" is exactly what you will see as the title of the window at which point you are able to choose to use the "Safe Mode" option to boot.

Hmmmmmmm ..... OK, this is proving to be a tad difficult .... whether you have returned to the original hardware configuration or are using the new hardware configuration, I would be happy at this point to assume a "STOP 0×0000007B" error and for you to proceed to the link provided and follow the instructions.

i was trying to backup some information and norton ghost says it has bad sectors, could that be it? any software recommended to scan and repair?

It may well have bad sectors, but in this case I think it unlikely to be the cause of the problem you outlined in your original post.
